Obviously get the 6950,

As neither of this will Crossfire and it isnt worth it anyway, the 6950 will provide much lesser issues

This is impossible, as far as I know.

you can only crossfire like cards with like cards with ATI/AMD ... as in 4850 with 48X0. 6850 with 68X0, but (for example) you cannot crossfire a 6850 with a 6950, since they're far too different chips.

The 4850 2gb has 1gb of RAM (effectively). You would be wasting your time getting anything higher than a 1gb 4870 to crossfire with it (since any extra VRAM is wasted and the highest clocked card - ie 4870 - will downclock to match the lowest one), and better/worse yet, it will crush you PSU either way. The 4850x2 card is purely for the fun of it now. It's not that powerful anymore, sucks a bunch of electricity, runs hot, doesn't support current DX standards. It's for nostalgia, benching, old games and tinkering-fun.

At this point, your BEST bet is to sell all your cards and get the best value 7800 series AMD card. A 7850 or 7870. If you can stretch, get up to the 7900 series. If you want the best gaming solution, get the best, newest, single GPU you can.

*EDIT* - get the 6950 of those options. It'll provide you the most power, newest tech, and easiest solution ... but it WILL NOT crossfire with your 4850x2. The 4890 *may* do so, but will kill your PSU.

Sorry bud ... no good news here, unless you wanted an excuse to upgrade or avoid spending money. Either way, your current plan is shot redface.gif

OP welcome to ocn. as the others have said CF is not possible with HD 4850 X2. sell the 4850 X2 and get a HD 6950 if its cheap. if its a new card I suggest the best HD 7000 card in your budget. probably a HD 7850 or HD 7870.

Thank U all ...

But I cant sell 4850X2 for some reasons frown.gif
Why can't match my 4850x2 with 6850? so what Dummy Plug is for? I heared you can Combine any kinda ATI or Nvidia Cards together with Dummyplug! for example a 5770 and 4850 placed on a MB ... they recognized as seperate VGA by windows and need 2 monitor to both of them operate, but with dummy plug you can use both GPU for one monitor ! is that right?

and one more thing ... i bought my friend's old Motherboard (a MSI 870S) and a AMD Phenom CPU ... my PSU is OCZ 700w ( it is used too but passed PSU tests) plus my 4850x2 ...at the first assembly of this PC I installed windows, the day after that I pushed my PC start button and it powered on for 1 second and shut down immediatly!!! i took it to services and they say your Mainboard Bios crashed and you shoud send it to Guarranty center ... frown.gif(((
was it because of my wild 4850x2? my PSU works well but MB gone frown.gif
can a hungry card like 4850x2 burn a Motherboard? i'm so worried ...
tnx

No, Dummy plug just makes your unused card think theres another monitor, when there isnt. It isnt used for CrossFire etc, and you can only crossfire cards with the same family together, so 6850 and 6850/70 and 7790/70/50

tanx...

but what about 4850x2 ?
is this card dangerous for motherboard? or PSU?
Not to the motherboard, but it will stress the PSU too far, IF it starts
