I'm doing an rgb led mod. I needed some advice cause I don't have much experience.
So that I won't invalidate my warranty I'm thinking of removing the whole LED strip including the logo.
Then I'll connect the RGB led strip light to my controller and insert it in the place of the old led strip.
I'm thinking maybe it won't look good shining the light through the hole. Maybe I can use a piece of plastic with similar light diffusing properties as a the original to make it look more like the original.
If this doesn't look good i will try and sand down the original rubber and use that as a diffuser.
Two more things I am not sure of. How electrically safe my planned mod is and if I will be able to hide the cable properly. I'm thinking of hiding it between the graphics card power cables.
I would really appreciate any more advice you could offer how to improve the mod and make it as simple as possible

I have finished the first step of the mod. I removed the green paint.
I will buy the remaining parts (motherboard, processor and led lights and controller) and see how it looks like.
I ll try and avoid doing the RGB light mod cause it looks really good in white.

I own a reference design 980 Ti. Will it void the warranty if I paint the card or change the color of the GFX logo?

Depends on the manufacturer. To be safe, I'd look for another reference cooler on eBay to mod or reattach for warranty purposes.

Hey guys, bit late to the party but wanted to give a heads up.

Sandpaper is the wrong thing to use for this mod, while it works it's never going to give you a great finish. Can see from some of the photos the logo is left heavily gouged/scratched after doing the mod.

Use wet and dry paper instead. As fine as you can get. Wet it and rub the logo as per the instructions throughout the thread. Don't worry about getting the wiring or the internals a bit wet in the process, just give it a bit of time to fully dry out before rebuilding the cooler.

Did mine last night, perfectly smooth finish and only took about 5 minutes smile.gif
