I was originally buying one at this price anyway but was excited at some of the suggested pricing I was seeing on other sites. Could be some of the other lower prices did not include the BF4 bundle and some are. We'll have to wait and see.

Hoping 290X reference aren't voltage locked in case I need a bit more juice.

Doing a google search of the HIS part number i get 1 result which is a Chinese site listing it for the same price. I wouldn't put too much faith in that one.

We don't know what fan speed they used. Prolly on auto. Also we can assume a good 15-20'C reduction when customs board appear imo... thumb.gif

Not saying that those 90+ temps aren't high, they are indeed, but its a stock cooler anyway..

But then again releasing a product reaching 90+ temps, it doesn't seems so good for now.

TIM Swap will instantly drop temps down 5C

Good thing winter is coming up lol - probably going to try putting an EK waterblock. With a more agressive fan profile , and lower ambient temps - maybe we can get it down to 75C max at a decent fan speed.

All good points smile.gif

Not sure how keen I'd be to bump the fan profile too high... That plastic fan doesn't exactly look like a Noctua design tongue.gif I think there's a fair few rumours stating that there wont be any non-reference designs of the 290X (maybe that's just for the launch though)

Yep, aftermarket TIM seems like a must-have.

Any idea's on how that plastic shroud would hold up with such high auto-fan temps though??

When I game I have my HD650s on my head I do not hear anything but game. Aggressive fan profile is no bother. I also feel the furmark readings we got from that Chinese review were way high and not enough information to validate this card is actually hot running. I'm really looking forward to a real review and specifications on the system used.

Anybody remember how hot the 7970 reference cooler got? I never had interest in reference coolers before because they were always double digits hotter than the custom counterparts, but this time around it seems we wont have a choice for a little while. It feels like i'll finally be putting all this radiator space too good use though! It's been itching for a challenge

Ya my computer is actually my spare bedroom (cabling going thru wall), so i can have it at 100% if i wanted - but id rather have the fans going 60% or slower. I remember my old reference XFX 7970 sounded like a jet engine when i walked past that room and it was over 55% lol

My 7970 Twin Frozr from MSI could get the normal 90 degree Celsius temperature down a bit but at the expense of making my ears bleed and that is one of the nicer non-reference coolers. I'm sure it will be the same story if not worse with the R9 290X. Thank but no thanks, I'll keep my EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked with ACX cooler. It keeps at 70 degrees Celsius no matter the circumstance and I can't tell it's there. I have an Obisidan 550D case and it does an excellent job of quieting. I had the MSI 7970 TwinFrozr in it before and you could still hear the jet engine like noise. So, it seems the same status quo for the last 3 generations, decent performance but at the cost of bad thermals & hearing loss. rolleyes.gif Come on AMD, show your fanboys some love!
