How long before a touchpad shows wear?

How long is it acceptable for a touchpad to last before it starts showing signs of wear? I am asking about a matte type of touchpad. My last laptop had a glossy surface touchpad so this is kind of different for me on this new laptop. After using the laptop for about 3 weeks I can clearly see a worn out area that appears "shiny" compared to the rest of the touchpad. Is this normal/acceptable? Or is this just low quality materials?

I have 3 laptops, of which all have matte type of touchpad. All of them have a slight "shinyness" compared to the corners where my fingers rarely go. This is pretty much normal, since half of the shinyness is from fat and other stuff that comes off of your fingers and such, and other half is then actual wear. To be honest, I have never seen any touchpad or similiar with a matte type of surface, that don't go a bit shiny with normal use.

Do you think it could be possible/acceptable for it to start showing up after 3 weeks of use (fairly heavy use thanks to school lol)?

Pretty much yes. I bought my newest laptop a month or 2 ago, but haven't used it daily, and it starts showing a little shinyness already. And as far as I remember, I had similar behavior on my oldest laptop too. (I bought my 2nd oldest laptop as used so I can't tell) biggrin.gif
