Hi All!

Welcome to my build log. smile.gif

I am still in the process of planning out all the components and color. Sorry for the lack of pictures but they will come. smile.gif

Theme
I will be doing a Noctua themed build. I think it could look classy or ugly depending on my choices so this will be a nice challenge. biggrin.gif I've always liked Noctua so I decided to give it a go. I need to find components that can work in the beige/brown colors. I'm hoping I could get some good advice and tips for my choices.

- Noctua theme
- Custom paint job on the case and GPU backplate.
- Custom sleeving on both ATX and SATA cables.

Updates:
- Package from MDPC
- Motherboard, Armor and Assist Fan /URL]
-
SATA Cable Sleeved
- Tested sleeving combo on CPU power cable
- PSU and RAM
- Case Labs Mercury S5 Case has arrived
- Sneak peak at the painted case color
- Custom painted Case Labs Mercury S5 photoshoot
- Dual 780 ti's has arrived
- Aqua Computer and EK stuff, Reservoir mounted
- Final sleeving color combo chosen. 24-Pin cable sleeved and routed
- First PCIE cable sleeved
- Second PCIE cable sleeved
- Last few pieves of hardware has arrived

Case ordered this weekend. Will be going for the S5 with Pedestal. I want a really quiet case so more radiators will be better. Window top and XL windows on the sides. Also went for primer grey and will have the case custom painted in Noctua colors.

I've also decided to go for 3 radiator setup with two 360 60mm+ in P/P in the pedestal and a 240 in front of the S5. I'll measure how thick the radiators can be when the case arrives. Pictures will follow. smile.gif

Awesome specs!

Can't wait for the build, it looks promising thumb.gif
Can't wait to see how the theme would look like

I'm just curious, what Hard drive's or/and SDD's are you going to use?

For the motherboard, do you want to overclock your CPU? if you do, Asrock Z87M Extreme 4 would be fine, and the Asus Z87 Gryphon will be fine too, but doesn't have much overclocking features as the Asrock. I would also like to include Asus ROG Maximus VI (the colour won't suit it, but you can a make a armour for it or paint it). I'm not sure.

Asrock= Features (Dat brown PCB)
Asus Gryphon= Aesthetics and very durable
ROG Maximus Gene VI= Premium Features (Pricey yet its worth it)

I wish you good luck with the choice thumb.gif
(Sorry for the obvious comment if it is)

Edit. Forgot to sub tongue.gif

Thanks. smile.gif

I'll definitely OC but with my luck I'll probably get a bad 4770k.

I already have a Gene VI for my wife's computer. Awesome board but as you said the red/black-scheme doesn't fit. This is the only reason I'm not getting one for this build. Really hard to find something that goes with Noctua colors. As you know the reason for the Asrock is the brown PCB and gold capacitors. This will fit nicely with the paint job I'm getting for the case. Gryphon would be easy to match with a painted armor. Not really a fan of the armor though although it will look very clean with it and that's a good thing. smile.gif Haven't decided yet but I am leaning a tad more towards the Asrock.

Also I may get the Seasonic Gold instead of Platinum. That fit's better with the scheme.

I'm also unsure as to what tubing and coolant to get. I'm visioning the interior of a luxury car with tanned leather, chrome and glass. I'm trying to make the build look classy or the whole thing might look like poo... biggrin.gif Right now I'm looking at Bitspower black sparkle fittings, Crystal links and rigid tubing. I will not bend the tubing and rather go for fittings to make the angles. I think more black sparkle fittings will be better to make the inside pop as I won't be using colored or UV lighting. I think I'll use regular white leds. Also I'll probably use clear coolant. An option is sleeving the tubing but why would you hide the gorgeous rigid tubing. smile.gif So since the tubing will look transparent and "glassy" I'm considering using EK blocks with clear top and nickle plating to match.

I've already received two Intel 520 240GB SSDs which I will use in Raid 0. Not sure yet which mechanical drive I'll get.

Ah right, the brown PCB would be perfect for your theme.

Rigid tubing will look awesome, I'd say it is 10 times better than flexible tubing.
Rigid tubing will look clean, simple and elegant.
If you don't want to bend acrylic tubes, you will need a alot of fittings, depend on how you want the plumbing system to work.
EK makes awesome blocks, it will look awesome in your build!

Nice choice of SSD's (I would go for the Samsung Evo drives, they are cheaper and the fastest SSD's on the market *I think so, got this information from LinusTechTips*)

Good luck thumb.gif

EDIT: I hope you'll get a good CPU smile.gif

A few more items ordered today. My Caselabs Mercury S5 has still not gone into production but I think it will be sent before next weekend. smile.gif

New items ordered today:
Intel 4770k
Corsair 16GB DDR3 Dominator Platinum 2400MHZ CL9
ASUS Z87 Gryphon with armor kit
40mm Noctua NF-A4X10
Seasonic Platinum 1000W

Also ordered a load of molex female contacts for my custom sleeving as well as some 18 AWG UL1007 wires.

So after thinking about it I went with the Asus board and of course I will change the fan that comes with the board to a Noctua fan. Total Noctua fans is now 18 for this build. My older Sabertooth Z77 had a horrible fan that made ticking noises. The armor kit will let me match the color scheme and I'm sure the Asus board is solid. I was toying with the idea of going 4930k but it's even harder to find a board that matches my theme on the 2011 platform and it won't give much benefit to me. I'll mostly use this rig for gaming and some light video and photo editing.

I will also probably try to match the Corsair RAM by custom painting the aluminium part. White leds will also match the build. I'm thinking of going with a few subtle white LEDs inside the case once it's done.

ETA on some watercooling parts is this Thursday so stay tuned. I will start to post the first few pictures then. The text to picture ratio on this thread is way too high already. biggrin.gif
