It does have a cheaper VRM (low rds rather than directfet + colitronics) and horrendous cooler compared to reference however:
This is the shroud removed
EK says it's FC7950 waterblocks fit http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/step1_complist?gpu_gpus=603
Cooler is not as bad as you think, the fan sits on top of a decent heatsink that directs the air out over the memory and vrms. The ones I have also have a plastic cover over the entire card furthur directing flow., Its definitely are worth the money and the performance is there except for crossfired in eyefinity which i bought a pair of them for a couple weeks ago. Oh well, hoping they get the drivers straightened out soon.
I replaced the TIM as whats on there sucked, it was chalky and sloppy. I saw a nice temp drop of about 5C after doing this (im using one in my work rig right now, the microstutter was to bad in eyefinity on my home rig). I put it to 1000 core 1500 mem right out of the box and temps are good, but the fan can be a little loud. Still.....its worth it.Edited by Ultisym - 10/4/13 at 5:45pm
