Trying to figure out which one of these desktop speakers to get for my pc..id like to stick with powered speakers and ill most likely be pairing these with the odac/o2 combo with headphones later on. Ill be using these for gaming music and movies. These seem the be the best ones in the price range im looking for. i want the best sound quality and some good soundstage for gaming..any input would be great thanks!

I think the Audioengine A5 is a bit bass biased, with pretty good details. I know the Adam speakers (especially the Ax series) have higher treble extensions and soundstage off the upper frequencies. Mid range is a bit weak with less details but the Audioengine A5 is just as bad if not worse.

If you want good treble extensions and increased soundstage off the higher frequencies I would choose the Adam, why not save a few more and get the A5x? I don't have comment on the Emotiva speakers. Or better, save up some more money and get the Focal CMS40 or 50's. They have much better stereo imaging and stellar mid range detail and clarity + great treble.

I looked at your DAC and it only has 3.5mm analog output. Not a best solution for connecting that to the studio monitors for best sound. Are you set on that DAC?

No problem. Creative EMU0404 USB DAC is highly recommended because it's known for superb transparency / contrast. Beats out any other DAC's on the market.

It's got two balanced 1/4" TRS outputs for the speakers. You can get single-ended TRS 1/4" Male-to-XLR Male cables, something like this one--> http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BPBQXM5/ Or you can get TRS 1/4" Male-to-RCA cables elsewhere. I would go with the TRS to XLR all balanced. It also has 1/4" headphone jack on the front, 3.5mm on the back. This can be had for anywhere from $150~ 200. This DAC is what I eventually will get..... don't have the money left buy toilet papers right now as I spent all on power cables....

I have the 2i4, which I love. Has balanced TRS and two RCA outputs, all of which can be used at the same time.

Another vote for the Focusrite. I don't own one (I use a Presonus with my monitors) but I have used one with my speakers and thought it did a pretty good job.
