Any iPod will take DRM free music, every song on my iPod was downloaded off BitTorrent, I used to have most of my music bought through iTunes but I replaced it with much higher quality stuff I got off of a private high quality only music torrent site.
Most people, myself included, are hoping that the Gen VI iPod will have the same size and shape as the Gen V but the entire front will be a widescreen display which you would touch to control the iPod. Most likely (like the fake photos that are all over the internet) you would touch the screen and an overlay of the clickwheel from the Gen V iPod would show up over your video/photo allowing you to control it, for music I bet they would keep the same layout ("clickwheel" on the bottom of the screen, album art and song info at the top) though they could easily mix things up or even allow you to download skins for your iPod which would be amazing IMO.
Also Samsung who is the primary supplier for the 1.8" HDDs in the iPods (not the nano or shuffle which use flash RAM) is releasing their 100GB 1.8" drive in January and Apple is expected to stick one of those in the Gen VI as well.
