No you aren't, not even close. Most of the people that have used 8 for more than a day or two tell me the same thing we all say "I could never go back" It simply IS better and more intuitive once you get past the OMGZ NOSTERTMENU syndrome.

There is nothing intuitive about a touchscreen based OS on a non-touchscreen desktop. None of your shortcuts are new, they all existed since Vista at least. We moved to Windows over DOS in the first place to multi-task, not blind us with one thing at a time. Having to Ctrl-Alt-Del to shut down is moronic. Hiding fullscreen applications from the start bar is a stupid way to eat up extra memory when you forget to close it. Opening an audio file should not result in a full-screen application, yet it does. Going to close a window on the right brings out the charm bar.

I could go on for days.

Windows 8 has it's place, and as an OS it is much more evolved, faster, and stable. The UI was never designed for this purpose however, and for everyone claiming "It's more intuitive" the only explanation I've seen is "Shortcuts and Hotkeys", which is amazing since most of them we've had since XP, and certainly every Windows 7 and Win8 + Start8 user has them too.

Other fun complaints involve trying to default people to use a live email as their ID, and having the balls to put this horrible UI on servers. Yes, they actually put it on Server 2012. I would love to hear excuses as to why a Phone UI is on a $50,000+ computer in a server cabinet in a computer room that will never even have monitor plugged into it, let alone a touch one.

ALL YOU NEED IS START8

Then its THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE.

Naysayers are pretenders who are not computer literate. Nor could they pass the A+ Comptia test.

There are actually 3 camps, not 2.

Windows 8 bone stock - I consider these to be insane since there is no legitimate reason to blank an entire screen when it offers no extra functionality whatsoever. All I ever hear out of people from here is a rebranding of "The Mac Experience"

Windows 8 with Start8 or similar - I sit here. There are many bonuses to using Win8, and this gives you the best of both worlds.

Windows 7 - Didn't upgrade for some reason or another. Usually due to fearing change, and/or not understanding there is an easy fix while retaining all the benefits. Others just don't care.

I like Windows 8, I don't use Metro apps but full-screen Start menu is definitely more practical than a small Start Menu crippled with tons of folders.

Now a lot of Metro ergonomics are meant for tactile and not really for PC imo like right click to show all apps and such. The idea of a Full-screen Start menu is the only plus for me. The rest I don't really care anyway.

I never understood why people use the Start menu. The only features I used were the Search, which you have in 8, and items pinned to the start menu, which you also have in 8.

Then the other day a friend asked me if there's a convenient way to find the Visual Studio driver compile environment shortcut. I told him to just pin it - it's what I would have done. Turns out he used to open All Programs and go all the way to the folder containing that shortcut whenever he needed to open it. People who need the start menu are just not using some features, like pinning, IMO.

I have been using Windows 8 since it came out on both my work laptop and home desktop.

But at the same time I haven't been using Windows 8. I have the classic shell installed with a proper start menu.

I really cannot get on with the big bulky start screen which is clearly designed for touch only. The start menu is brilliant, it always has been. Its also what a whole generation or 2 of computer users have built their understanding around as well.

It wasn't broke, so why kill it off? To be honest I would blame the lack of the start menu for Windows 8's slow take up.

If I had a touch screen computer, I would like windows 8 because Windows 7 is not a good touch screen environment.

Kinda would like a Surface Pro 2 if it had a dedicated GPU like a 750 or equivalent. or if they can build that into a dock...or into a keyboard cover...or SLI 750's into a keyboard cover and scrap the battery/hdd.

Microsoft get on this! Gamers want a tablet that can play (real) games!

Note: I hate the razor tablet thing. Don't refer me to it please smile.gif
Brilliant idea. Win 8 works great on my ib laptop, on my workstation t's a bloated mess coming from linux

Do you people do anything but look at your start menu/screen? I actually don't spend much time looking outside of Excel, Visual Studio and Firefox, thereby rendering the most obvious differences between Win 7 and Win 8 completely unimportant. I use both and hate them equally.

What they need to do is make a version of Windows, that lets you choose what you want on the OS.
Yes, I understand that you can turn most of them off-but why have to turn them off-I don't want them in the first place.
Go to MS and download the OS, the basic necessities -Hmm, lets see, I want this and this, I don't need this or this-Then start the download.

I have been using Windows since 3.1 (I still have Win 95 on 15+ floppies)
To tell you the truth, the only one I HATED was Windows ME, some I liked better than others.
Since I cant program an OS, I will try and not tear someone/company apart for doing something I cannot.

I fill up Microsoft with cabinets, they fill up my harddrive with an OS-lol ( I have built cabinets for Microsoft campuses for over 15 years)

-dimwit-

Ya, its pretty sad when some CEO/COO can run a company into the ground and walk away with a fist full of cash-very sad.

First i hated W8 but now i like it more than W7.
My biggest complaint is still that too much of the UI is hidden. I would actually like a visible start button that takes you to the metro screen. And the charms menu should just be completely removed or be integrated into the metro UI, it's annoying when you want to click close and then the menu moves before the close button because you moved your mouse too much to the right.

But in desktop mode the UI and performance are better than W7. Not much better but still better. And the task manager is fantastic (i know there are 3rd party programs that do the same in w7 but i dont really like installing additional stuff to change the UI).
