Would you buy this MB

Thread Starter
Hello guys I have been looking around for a P4C800 and I found one for a good price. The thing is it a refurb, you can see that the guys says refurbished by manufacturer. I know that there is a chance that it's a new MB they sent him. Also there is a chance that it's the same board and there maybe a malfunction is 2 months. Please let me know what you think, and give your best most honest advice.

This MB would go for my main and only rig.

I wouldn't, unless your IC is acting up. But I'd definitely will not go P4C for IC if everything is working just fine.

If it ain't broke? Don't fix it.

Well actually the only reason I am even looking is because I am not able to OC very well and I can figure it out. I have tried different voltages, clocks, timings about everything I could think of. I don't if it's the MB or what but with my old P4P800 I was able to get 3.8Ghz verified. The MB work fine I just can't OC very well in comparison to my other MB. Some people might say so what a least it works... well if that was my attitude I would hsve never fopund this site. To me "If it aint broke make it better, If you brake it RMA time." lol Thank you for the reply and advice mind if I ask why you would keep the IC over the P4C

Whenever these things are refurbished or replaced..anything like that. They just make it sound better that it might be new, refurbed, etc etc...It's bullcrap. It's never new.

If you believe you need to replace that IC and want to keep the price down by buying used, refurbished, etc., then I suggest you buy a used one from the forum. Post a thread in the wanted section.

What you get here will probably be a better buy than a refurbished product from somewhere else. I think that if you can only find it used, you can buy with more confidence from someone on here, provided they have been a member here for some time, have a decent amount of rep and a high enough post count.

Check it out and tell me what you think.

EDIT: Thanks for the advice buddy, I already have a wanted post I am just waiting for a response.

This website seems to show that the P4C800 is slightly better in performance and OCing, I just wanted to add this in. http://www.hothardware.com/viewartic...eid=40&catid=3

Simply because the performed equally good and they both are great over-clockers. I used to have an IS7 and that thing would OC like mad, I luvd ABIT in the socket 478 days.

You may not be able to OC with your IC maybe because you have bad RAM? Cooling? Vc not enough? Vdimm not enough? locking pci freq? PSU? heat related?

Either way, $140 for an old MoBo doesn't sound good. Save your money and for when you're ready, CONROE!

That is great advice thank you. One thing is I am partial to Asus and you are towards Abit lol. I wanted to give Abit a try and fir this time it didn't go well. I believe that the problem is Vdimm. My RAM need a minimum of 2.7 and my board only adjusts to 2.75. I believe I would need to do a vmod on the R50 resister next to the Winbond chip. Being that I am not the best solder I desided not to bother with this mod .
