Firstly, I tried using the F8 key earlier in the week to bring up the Boot Menu but got the same result as above.

So today, I used Rufus (http://rufus.akeo.ie/) to create a bootable UEFI GPT Windows 8 installation disk on my new USB flash drive and BINGO.

Moral of the story; at least for me, is that even though the DVD which appears to be UEFI compliant ... it doesn't work.

Thank you to Grunion & BeerPowered for your assistance.

Missed this...

Strange indeed, like I mentioned earlier with W7 I had to actually move boot files around to make it work.

Glad you got it sorted.

Yes I certainly don't understand why it didn't / wouldn't from the DVD.

In this case, I used a Win7 laptop & created a ISO from the Win8 DVD via ImgBurn as the input into Rufus. My understanding is that Rufus simply creates the necessary partitions on the USB flash drive & then copies the files from the ISO to the relevant partition on the USB. Not sure if Rufus changes the location of a particular file or files within the directory structure as compared to the DVD.

However once complete, I booted the PC & installed Win8 in UEFI mode no problems. The only minor hassle I had was that windows wouldn't activate but that was easily resolved.

Interesting though that looking in Disk Management two of these "UEFI" partitions are 100% EMPTY ... according to Disk Mgmt (the other partition of course is hidden from windows).

Now for Win 8.1 upgrade !!!!!
