New laptop for my mother for early christmas gift

My mothers laptop is on its way out and she is convinced she needs a new one asap. I told her I would look for one, but to be honest I dont know a thing about laptops. So I was hoping you guys could help me out
Quote:
What is your maximum budget? Id say 400-600, 700 if the extra is worth it

What country are you in? USA

What will be the uses of this laptop? Web browsing, excel, editing photos, whatever old women do with laptops lol

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you? I like ASUS but dont care much which brand. She has a Dell now

What screen size do you require? Well bigger is always better, but we dont have to go extreme

What screen resolution do you require? 1080p will be fine

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay? I would prefer new, but refurbished would be fine

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet) Uh 24 hours I guess??

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings? She will only play browser games and solitare, but would be nice to have some gaming abilities for when my nephews come over

What operating system do you need? (if any) I have an extra windows 7 copy

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.) Something rugged would be nice, but Im a sucker for things that are "rugged"

How much hard drive space do you need? I would love to have an SSD for a main drive, and a secondary 250Gb HDD would be nice, or if theres an open slot I can add one later

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.) Bluray would be nice, but not required.

Is there anything else we need to know?
Its for an older woman, so something "user friendly" would be a perk

Thanks guys and I appriecate your advice. Sorry if this is a repetitive question, but I didnt seen anything real obvious.

And if you guys need anything in return, like advice on watercooling, I will be happy to answer any questions.

That's a fairly big ask for the price. I would drop the screen res down to 900p. He's what you can get from DELL. http://www.dell.com/us/p/laptops?~ck=bt#!everyday-laptops&facets=226291~0~14720664,226291~0~16387359,236387~0~15191880&p=1

Oh ok. Like I said I am clueless about laptops lol. Nice advice, is it common for laptops to have more than one place to install a 2.5 HDD?? Like I said, I would love to put a small SSD, for the OS, in there and then a decent HDD, for the bulk load.

Generally for that budget laptops will have a single 2.5 and maybe a mSata slot for an SSD. An other option would be to replace the DVD drive (if it has one) with a 2.5 HDD mount. It's normally the high end machines that have a couple of 2.5 inch mounts.
