Overclocking help!! And fx 4170

Thread Starter
I have been trying to overclock my CPU all day, following tutorials for exactly the same motherboard and CPU that I have (All Spec. is shown below)

Please can someone give me some advice on this, kinda new to it.. I always seem to come across some problem, not always the same one when trying to Overclock my CPU.
Overclocking through BIOS by the way.

Problems I have encountered after overclocking through Bios:
- Windows does not load.
- Blue Screen then Restart
- Continuously restarts when loading windows
Although, one time I did get onto windows, I tried to run a game and it just went Blue Screen with some text and restarted. I assume this was because it didn't like that I was using a certain about of processing power.

PC Spec:
Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M
Processor - AMD FX 4170 Black Edition (4.2 GHz)
Power Supply - 750w
Graphics Card - Nvidia GeForce 550Ti
HHD - 1x 7200rpm
SSD - 1x

I am looking to upgrade the processing power to 5Ghz, as I have read many posts where people have said that they have been able to do this.

If Anyone could help me, I would be extremely grateful, been trying to do this all day now.

I know people have upgraded all the way up to 5GHz:

Thanks in advance

First of all, 5Ghz may be possible but it all depends on the Silicone Lottery pretty much. Some chips can only go so high before becoming unstable. But if your chip runs at stock speeds just fine. Try running prime 95 on the first torture test, when you overclock. If a core fails stop the test and boot into your bios. Adjust your CPU voltage in .0125v increments until the cores are stable under prime95 for 15-30mins.

Also try going in .2 ghz increments, say 4.1 to 4.3 and go from there. It will make voltage incrementing much easier.
