Interpreting GPU-Boost/Afterburner

Thread Starter
Hey all,

so I decided to start fiddling around with AfterBurner again on a pair of GTX 760's in SLI. Obviously the methodology is a bit different with GPU-Boost coming into play, I'm working on differences instead of static numbers.

Decided to start like I normally do, overlock my stock card to the specs of the "SuperClocked" variant. In this case:

My card:
Base Clock: 980Mhz
Boost Clock: 1033Mhz

Superclocked:
Base Clock: 1072Mhz
Boost Clock: 1137Mhz

Well, the base bit seems easy enough, so I add +92 - and my base clock doesn't move an inch. Still 980.

Ok...

So I test the fan speeds, yep, have control over that just fine. All the readouts seem accurate as well, so I'm guessing this isn't a problem with my AB installation. So I hit reset and load up a game, card boosts itself to 1124Mhz. Add my +92 back in, 1215Mhz for a difference of +91, close enough.

So it is making a difference, however the core clock speed does NOT adjust the base clock at all and I'm a bit fuzzy on exactly what the "Power Limit (%)" is actually doing. Does setting it to 110% allow the card to draw 110% the power it normally would, or just clock itself up to 110% of its normal maximum speed? And where are they getting the numbers for "Boost Clock", since I seem to be hitting well above that number at any point whether I'm stock speeds or overclocked.

Is there a decent guide around somewhere for this one? I've found a fair amount of information around here and elsewhere, but a lot of it seems conflicting.

Thanks!,

Find the GTX 670 OC guide, that should give you a good start. I'd link you, but being on mobile is a pain to do that.

EDIT: Remember you have GPU Boost 2.0 so you'll have a "Temp Target" along with a "Power Target" so if your card is reaching the temp you have temp target set to it will throttle the card to maintain that temp.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thank you both!

(For the record, I'll disagree with SeanPoe on the superiority of Precision-X over AfterBurner - personally I find MSI's interface a lot easier to deal with and haven't run into any of the voltage issues mentioned, but it's entirely possible those were fixed between that guide being written and now.) I'd like to hear others thoughts on the matter though.
