if I have windows 7 on my pc with the key, can I sell it or put that key on another pc if I upgrade to windows 8?

If it came OEM its tied to that particular motherboard and it would not be legal to use it on a different machine.

not sure if it was oem, but its just illegal to do but it will work if I just used it on another pc of mine? I hate to waste it, im thinking of getting w8

you could call MS and ask them about it. that my help you out with that. worse that can happen is they say no, i doubt they would do that though. Legality aside, it should work. It is legal to do that as long as it isnt oem and you dont run the same key on 2 computers i believe.

The key will work on another machine. It might not activate automatically and complain. This complain message will look like a link and clicking on it will open a window that will guide you through a process for activation. It will tell you a phone number. Calling it, you will find yourself connected to a robot. You will have to type numbers you see on your screen on the phone's number pad, and you will have to type numbers the robot tells you on your PC. Windows will activate and you won't have to use hacks or loader or anything fishy.

The widows that you download from school are the oem or full?
There's no difference between OEM and "full" version of the key. The difference is purely in talk about if it's legal or not.

sure there is I was told oem is set on you mobo and you cant change it, but full retail ver. you can change your mobo and reinstall windows

Just try it. It will work. Go through the activation process by phone. The full version will ***** in the exact same way, will want phone activation if you change the motherboard.

All of this is pretty confusing because the rules change with every new Windows. XP was different to Vista to 7 to 8. If you have a key in your hands, I honestly think you have the same sort of key as anyone else with 7. If the PC itself has something saved in hardware, you would perhaps have some special Windows version without a key.
