OP wait for R9 280X launch on Oct 8th. price usd 300 . its a tweaked HD 7970 and should most probably be more power efficient. anyway tomorrow reviews will be up. you also want to wait because the new coolers will be ready from all brands.

The asus direct cu ii r9 280x looks to be the best in terms of cooling and acoustics.

Maybe, but the performance for R9 280x and 7970 are quite similar except 280X is slightly faster. I mean if you watch Linus AMD R9 280x Unboxing and Review.
The problem lies on the price.

But I will wait and see before I decide to grab either R9 280X, 7970 or GTX 780 if it happen to drop the price significantly which I doubt it.
