However, his arguments are VERY valid - AMD was simply disappointing. AMD right now is not focusing on efficiency but raw power, just like Intel in the past. Intel's Pentium 4 and Pentium D gave the raw power it needed to compete with AMD but it wasn't efficient enough in the long run. Now, AMD shows that it is desperate in claiming the market. Why can't there be more balance in the CPU competition?
Balance would be nice. It keeps things interesting. I use to be an AMD fanboy before C2D was released. Whoever is looking the best will be the one I'll have at the time.

In the defense of AMD and the whole price issue. Lets keep in mind how much newegg charged for the Q6700. Maybe they are overcharging a lot on the AMD as well.

I used to be an AMD fanboy too before Pentium D came out, and when it came out i thought to myself "zomg! if this is just Pentium D, then Conroe must be pwnz0rz"

Anyways, the price issue shouldn't be a big part of the argument here. Even though newegg, as well as many retailers, do overprice items at the beginning, we are looking at targeted audience who are willing to throw thousands of dollars away for "top of the line" performance. So, performance (and IMHO, efficiency as well), is more important here in the argument.

But cant you get octo core in 2007 on the 4x4 system I haven't seen octo-core on Intel roadmaps. But Intel has those price drops good times ahead.

Pardon my ignorance, I didn't realize that you had to buy TWO FX70's. Thats lame. I thought it was two dual core CPU's for $350.

It's important for the buyer to consider, since they can get better performance, better efficiency, and a lower price from C2Q. 4x4 has to be the worst idea since the square wheel.

This is the great AMD 4x4 I've heard so much about?

AMD X2 is better than Pentium D lol

These parts will drop a combined $300 in the next month at best, and Intel will have a cheaper quad at that time too, a comparison may be able to be made at that time. AND numerous sites have concluded that you don't need a kilowatt power supply for these demons (although I'm sure it couldn't hurt) so you're not necessarily forced to dish out $300 for that part despite what folks above have claimed. Plus there are currently nobody else in the world selling this stuff except system builders, so of course the egg is going to jack the price crazy. When we see 4X4+ (or whatever they'll be called) boards hit when the 65nm K8L launches I truly believe AMD will have secured the ultra high end again.

Eh, too rich for my blood though.

The 8** series were laughable...the 9** series redeemed themselves in overclocking, and multitasking. X2's still had gaming down.
