Mantle is good in the short-term for AMD, but I can foresee issues when they step off the "Mantle"piece.

Or you know they could just develop a new version of mantle for a new arch when they go that route. It obviously wouldnt be backwards compatible, but thats not a real issue.

For those that may have missed it, we are close... Check what the egg has a page for: http://promotions.newegg.com/amd/13-4785/index.html

In case of Mantle "short term" can be between 3-5 years until AMD will change its current GCN architecture or when next-next gen consoles arrive.

It's not that easy. The only reason Mantle has any hope is because they can take most of the optimisations for consoles and port them to PC. No dev is going to code and learn an entirely new API for a brand new architecture that is PC only.

And consider how long the last gen of consoles lasted - can AMD stretch out GCN that far? They presumably have ideas of at least the next few gens, so as long as GCN scales very well with lots more transistors AMD should be fine.

They use a larger bus and made it 20% smaller on the same node.
Kudos AMD this is how the 2900x should've been

I estimate April. They promised mass production up to March to Apple, so it should be ready by then. Very pessimistic scenario, June, very optimistic, March or late Feb.
