512 shaders on HD7750 , 640 on HD7770.

They will be replaced by APUs but APUs don't have GDDR5...

Kaveri has 832 shaders supposedly http://wccftech.com/amd-desktop-kaveri-apu-13-cus-enabled-radeon-r5-m200-832-stream-processors-gpu-spotted/#ixzz2fXJUsDAF

My only concern is if it is even worth it to pick up a 280 considering it is just a refresh. I can go and grab a 7950/70 for a decent price and not pay the inflation on a supposed " new " product when in fact it is just a re-release with a new name. I could be wrong as I don't keep up with enthusiast hardware as much as I used to but it just seems like a ploy to pull money in. Maybe the next time they launch a new gpu lineup I'll jump.

R9-280? That should be a 7950 successor,not 7850.

Stay Puft is going by its position in the product stack.

R9-280 would be a HD7950 rebrand, not successor.

What AMD did was just move products down the stack and add a new GPU tier at the top (R9-290X, R9-290).
R9-290X --- Hawaii XT
R9-290 --- Hawaii Pro
R9-280X --- Tahiti XT = rebranded HD7970
R9-280 --- probably Tahiti Pro = rebranded HD7950
R9-270X --- Curacao XT = Pitcairn tweaked rebrand (1280 shader)
R7-260X --- Bonaire XTX = HD7790 rebrand (896 shader) w/ TrueAudio

Some of them are literally just a different box + BIOS flash...

Looks familiar

That doesn't make sense either, since that would mean the 260X is the new 7750 which isn't the case. There are gonna be more SKUs this time and there's nothing between 260X and 270X. I suppose we will see a R9-270 at a point.

We know there's a R7-240 at $59 and R7-250 at $89 (both are fairly pointless) but R9-270 or R7-270 isn't announced

The R7-260X is supposed to be $139 (slightly overpriced IMO if it's Bonaire ...though it comes with TrueAudio) , R7-270 or R9-270 would have to be $150-180ish since the R9-270X is $199

R9-280X from ASUS seems to have the new Cooltech cooler they use on the GTX 780 ; Sapphire's R9 280X Toxic seems to be similar to the Windforce 3X design
