I am guessing that model stock is 1000mhz? If so, 1180 would be a pretty significant boost in FPS for gaming.

Now what's going on here ?

How is 70°C for a GPU too hot ? It's right where it needs to be for a silent air-cooled GPU. If you're not happy with silent / Air-cooled GPUs you've got two options:
- Crank your GPU's fans up
- Go watercooling

There is nothing wrong with those cards people "complained" about on page 141. I would only ever be worried if an air-cooled GPU which was quite loud was pulling over 80-85°C while gaming.

i know from experience that my cards that were in a badly cooled case and on which i never bothered changing the fan settings were dead far too soon.
i like to keep them under 70 even in CF. i don't believe it's the gpu , it can handle these temp easy but other component on the board might age faster at higher temp.

I'm going to have to check my AISC when I get home, I think I have a good set of cards because in crossfire I can get to 1200mhz core on stock voltage (mine are voltage locked).

I have a question though, I think I used to know the answer before I took a 5 year break...are core clock & memory clock linked, as in, you can push your core to 1200mhz and leave your mem clock alone and it will bench fine, but pushing your mem slightly with the same core clock can crash a benchmark?

I can run 1200core/1500mem (stock memory), but putting just 50mhz on the mem with the same core clock crashes, however, leaving stock core (1100) and pushing memory to 1750mhz also benches fine.

In my one gaming session so far, Dead Island took temp to 75c. But I think something weird was going on, game froze, returned an error message about shadows, then unfroze, and temps dropped to low 60s. Load was high 90s. If mid 70s temp is what I'm going to get with this card, that's too high. I'll try some different games tomorrow.

Fans never went over 45%, and they're quiet, which was why I picked this model, so on that score, card is great. I can't hear the fans at 45% over my case fans.

Incidentally side fan on intake lowers temps by a few degrees. Haven't tried exhaust.

You need to setup a fan profile in afterburner. If you are only running 45% that's why your temps are going above 70c. Sounds like you've got lots of room to get those temps down.

I can only speak from experience i got with mine.  With a 1205 core clock i started getting artifacts at about 70-72c.  With that same overclock and the card's under water I no longer get those artifacts.  YMV!!!
