Another good card for 1080p is GTX 770. I wouldn't recommend getting a 770 over a R9 280X unless it's really cheap. EVGA GTX 770 with acx cooling is good pick. And if you dont plan to overclock, you can try to get the overclocked versions.
Nvidia has a new technology called G-sync. It helps with stutter, lagg and tearing. It's quite innovating i hear.
To take use of this techonlogy you need a particular monitor (A G-sync monitor) with a GTX 650 TI boost card or better.
G-sync monitors will be released (dunnu when), but one monitor that is already out in market that you can incorporate G-sync technology into is ASUS VG248QE.
It's a good monitor.
With all this said, if you can get a really good offer for a GTX 770 you can then buy a ASUS VG248QE, or wait with buying a monitor til G-sync monitors are released and buy one then.
You will then be able to have G-sync technology.
R9 280X may get between performance boost as result of new API called Mantle that AMD will launch in december. But this promise of performance boost has not been shown yet in contrast to G-sync which people have experienced.
You can't go much wrong with either a GTX 770 or a R9 280X. But if you go with a GTX 770 because its super cheap :
1. Try to get a EVGA acx one
2. Either buy a ASUS VG248QE monitor and wait for G-sync module to be released by Nvidia that you can buy and install into your monitor OR stick with your current monitor til monitor's with G-sync module built into them are released and buy one.
