My case was the HAF XB. Same conditions and same fan profile for both. I always have fans at 80% always when gaming using an MSI AB profile. I am basing my suggestion on my experience. I won't touch ASUS again. I bought mine before reading the countless forum posts about crappy temps on the Matrix. I don't rate that cooler at all. My 280Xs never went about 60 at 80% fans and 99% usage in modified BF4.

What kind of monitor will you have? 1080 or 1440?

The HAF XB (nice case) has only 2x 120mm intake fans. With no exhaust fans. Assuming you had no more fan, it's no wonder your Matrix Platinums in Xfire overheated.

For a 1920 x 1080p monitor , a R9 280X will be a good pick. But if you can get a good bargain for a R9 290, then get one.
However, a R9 280X will do well for most games on 1080p.

I guess there is no chance of them going on sale for bf/cyber monday since they just came out

can't hurt to be on the look out.
Another good card for 1080p is GTX 770. I wouldn't recommend getting a 770 over a R9 280X unless it's really cheap. EVGA GTX 770 with acx cooling is good pick. And if you dont plan to overclock, you can try to get the overclocked versions.

Nvidia has a new technology called G-sync. It helps with stutter, lagg and tearing. It's quite innovating i hear.
To take use of this techonlogy you need a particular monitor (A G-sync monitor) with a GTX 650 TI boost card or better.
G-sync monitors will be released (dunnu when), but one monitor that is already out in market that you can incorporate G-sync technology into is ASUS VG248QE.
It's a good monitor.

With all this said, if you can get a really good offer for a GTX 770 you can then buy a ASUS VG248QE, or wait with buying a monitor til G-sync monitors are released and buy one then.
You will then be able to have G-sync technology.
R9 280X may get between performance boost as result of new API called Mantle that AMD will launch in december. But this promise of performance boost has not been shown yet in contrast to G-sync which people have experienced.

You can't go much wrong with either a GTX 770 or a R9 280X. But if you go with a GTX 770 because its super cheap :
1. Try to get a EVGA acx one
2. Either buy a ASUS VG248QE monitor and wait for G-sync module to be released by Nvidia that you can buy and install into your monitor OR stick with your current monitor til monitor's with G-sync module built into them are released and buy one.

Asus Matrix PLATINUM and Sapphire Toxic - top two, build quality and frequency (1100 MHz out of box).

Then comes other cards which are good as well but not as good as the two i mentioned:
Sapphire Vapor X, Gigabyte Windforce, HIS, Asus , etc

So if you want the best R9 280X, it's either Matrix Platinum or Toxic.
The Matrix comes with a mousepad as well.

Then again these two cards aren't cheap, and you should only get one if it's appropriate for you.
Yeah, matrix and toxic are best 280xs you can get, however, adding another 20€ to that price will get you a 290.. biggrin.gif That's why I decided to go with 290, just waiting for non-ref rolleyes.gif

So,yeah,you get the idea,right?
But you also live inside EU, so why not buy from any other shop that sells them cheaper, like Germany,Spain? You won't pay any extra taxes and some shops even have free P&P. thumb.gif
