[Official] AMD R9 280X / 280 & 270X / 270 Owners Club - Page 189

hi there all, saw there was an owners club for the 280x and figured this was the place to be since i am a proud owner of two gigabyte r9 280's. slammed them into my troopa build, replacing some aging matrix gtx580's. so far i love the power jump and big jump in fps.. if there any tips on making these bad boys chew up games even better please let me know. im new to the amd line of cards i usualy use nvidia. here is a pic of my gpus..

so far there low temp and quiet compared to my 580's.

Says XTL will have less OC headroom than the current XT2s.

If that's true that's a tough one for me, I was waiting on custom 290s and/or XTL 280xs before I but since I'm in no hurry. I want lowest temps possible but a card like the current Asus TOP at 70-75c is acceptable and if it has more oc potential then maybe that's the better call. Ehh so hard to pick a new card.

Have some issues with not being able to use crossfire in the latest 13.11 beta it would bsod with a driver code.

So i did a couple re isntalls with no luck. Got on this morning and uninstalled all again and use amd auto detect to find drivers and it gave me 13.9 and has the cards labelled as 79 series again. Crossfire works and no more bsod's. Strange.

Any reason why the drivers would start acting differently.. the first thing i did was remove both cards to install one at a time for proper xfire installation. I think its definitely a driver issue but i think i may have been using a version later than 13.9 because i dont remember ever seeing them labelled as 79 series.

Anyone had any similar issue ?

i havent had the bsod issues as of yet but i did notice my fps and seems that performance over all has gone down a bit since i went from windows 8 to 8.1 and did the new beta drivers. not sure why either. seems the old driver worked better. i did the update beta driver cause it said it was installing a new crossfire profile for ghosts hoping it ould fix the game issues but yahhhhh not so much.... and i did a test with tomb raider- i was getting 185 max- 154 min fps wich is amazing coming from my two gtx580's that barly hit 60fps max. when i did the new beta driver though it dropped to 156 max- 110 min with all the same setting and thats on ultimate with tresfx. which is still great but seems slower like i said. im thinking like you must be something in the driver. im going to try a complete driver cleaning and then reinstalling see if the perfomance comes back if not ill go back to the older driver.

on another note does anyone here know when there suppose to add directx 11.2 to these cards i mean i have windows 8.1 pro and everywhere i see it should have 11.2 and my gpus are 11.2 ready so where the heck is my 11.2 lol..

after reading the back and forth i think it is a bad idea on the manifacturers part to do that, im not as intuned as the over clockers of today that go to some pretty seriouse extremes sometimes. but taking away the ability to push the hard ware is bad i think. not to mention is seems like there trying to use a cheaper way of making these gpus and still charging the same price, all comes back to money money money. give them a cheaper product and charge the same price.....

I couldn't also use the toolless adaptors of my HAF 932 with the 280X TOP, they bump into the card "backplate", so they are open and I use the good old screws.

need opinion about 280x:

1. is it worth it for sapphire toxic over sapphire vapor-x or msi gaming?
2. if it is... which is even worth for toxic or powercolor 290? i know 290 is hot, but the difference is only $30 between toxic & 290.
3. which one draw more power in full load? toxic or 290?
4. if toxic not that worth, what 280x should i get instead? vapor-x or msi gaming? or even the cheaper HIS or powercolor?

thanks for the enlightment, before i'm using 760, already sold it this morning. looking for radeon card smile.gif

AFAIK toxic and matrix are the best (and more expensive). the rest (that have voltage control) should OC the same, so its up to good looking, noise/temperature, bundled software.

I went to the asus TOP because it was the most silent vs msi. The MSI has the afterburner which is a good plus, I use it but I can't control voltage on my asus, would had to use the asus software that kinda sucks.
