Why is gigabyte a consideration for anyone?

Buying a voltage locked card doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure why Gigabyte is putting out a Rev 2 since its virtually no different than Rev 1. It had the chance to use a new cooler during Rev 2 development phase and they shot themselves on the foot for ditching it.

I thought the HIS IceQ was the quietest 280x?

I'm using a Gigabyte Rev1 7970 atm 1100/1450 (locked voltage frown.gif ) and max temp is 69c. considering it was 32c here today i'm calling that not bad at all.

i still can't recommend anything from Gigabyte but surely the 280x version can't be that different from mine?

im running two of the orginal the non rev2 gigabyte r9 280x's and im running the current 13.11 beta 2 driver and they both run like champs and run quiet and cool. furmark like they say is jut a heat producer and with the factory overclock already in place gpu's will runn hotter than normal. as far as in game where it counts im trashing threw every game i throw at it aside from the garbage ghosts wich is a whole other thread lol. bf4, tomb raider, all the batmans, metros's my fps's are threw the roof compared to my two matrix gtx580s. yah i didnt compare them to the 600 series or 700 series gpus from nvidia, but from all the forums i read price for price performace and fps in game these get it done.

like i mentioned in a few messages earlier these are voltage locked, they do push a little further than the stock overclock but not very far. but for the price they throw down. and i just picked up two xfx double d r9 280x's to go in my little cm k-380 case. newegg had them in stock and i pulled the trigger on them so i will post soon on how they work and if there voltage locked or not. they say they come with a free copy of bf4 so looks like i should have two free copies, any takers.... lol.

Release date no longer listed, only for Powercolor.
The Asus looks like the best all-around 280X.

Newegg catalog is refreshing quite frequently. Release date is back up for the DC2T. And yeah I think it's the best 280x also. I had one, returned it because it was too long. Unless your case is passively cooled you won't hear this card at full load, and temps don't go above 75c. The 2 DL-DVI ports are a huge plus to me as well since I'm into the Korean 1440p screens that only do dual link dvi and active displayport to dvi adapters are like $100. (Afaik only the Asus and Sapphire cards pack 2 DL dvi ports.) Really wish it were 5mm shorter...

Here's some size comparison pics between a Matrix platinum and sapphire toxic if anyone's interested.

I have a few observations and thoughts to share:

The Sapphire toxic is MUCH quieter than people give it credit for!!! I just sent back an Asus DC2T just a few days ago, and I don't agree with all the reviews stating how quiet it was. It may have been quieter than a matrix platinum, but the matrix is noisy as hell anyway!!! The toxic by comparison I feel is far less noisy than the DC2T, and even at full load is relatively pleasant and nowhere near as bad as the matrix.

Also, the toxic is long and narrow compared to both of the Asus cards. I stacked the toxic on top of the matrix in the third shot as you can see, and the matrix is about a good 3/4 of an inch wider although the toxic seems to be nearly a full inch longer overall.

Now for the bad. The ASIC quality of this toxic I just received was only 66%, and it doesn't clock very well either. The highest stable frequency I've gotten out of it so far is 1200/1650mhz, and anything higher than that it's starts artifacting pretty badly. It also seems to be stuck at 1.256 volts, and even when raised higher in afterburner and Trixxx, it stays put. The ASIC of my matrix by the way is 68%, so it's not much better but it can at least clock up to 1220/1800mhz stable.
