My idle temp is around 40C, while my load temps have reached as high as 93C during both BF4 and COD:Ghost.. and that is with a custom fan profile that puts the fan at 100% @ 60C. I am running the latest beta drivers , and my 650D is very well ventilated, with an ambient temp around 23C in the room.

From what I have been reading it seems like my temps should be lower. Are the load temps safe in the 90s? Are they possibly due to the fact that it is a factory overclocked Black Edition? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to report back that after a fresh install of windows, a cleaning of my case, and a little "burning in" time my temps have seemed to stabilize. I failed to mention before that I was running dual monitors, and that explains my high idle temps. My max temp doesn't seem to go much higher than 80C now with two monitors while gaming, and 70C when only running one. I am very happy with the performance of this card as well wink.gif

newegg seems to be doing this quite often lately, i got a PSU from them a month ago that was also clearly a return, all the seals were broken and the cables were used, the plug to the wall was dirty... i immediately issued an RMA request, and got it returned. It's a pain in the ass, but i'd rather get a new product (and did get a new one a week or 2 later...)

Is it Newegg's policy to sell returned items as new? I thought they were supposed to be sold as open box.

I have a call out to Newegg but it's an hour wait til callback. I suppose it's no biggie as long as the card works but I'm not thrilled about it. But if I return it who knows when I can get a new card, and at what price. I got this for the original $319, the card is $359 now. Can't decide what to do.

When you talk to them make sure you make a huge deal about it and ask if they can give it to you at an open box discount. Maybe they will be willing to work with you, who knows?!? I personally would be pretty angry if my new card came in obviously used!

Yeah. I imagine Newegg would be like, sure son ship it back so we can sell it for $40 more. This is what I get for being one of those guys who's always sending stuff back to Newegg, I'm sure plenty of guys have received my returned goods, payback is a b*tch.

Tell them you want a discount.

Then sell it and upgrade to a more powerful nvidia card for free.

Check ebay for how much your card is going for. You may not believe it.

If I were you, there would be no way I would return it... short of it simply not working.

hey not a bad idea.

Just put it up for $500 and see what happens. Go home with a 780

But if they return it after the holidays, you're screweddd

This Gigabyte 280x is a joke. Pull the cooler off and look at this 45° disaster. It's a damn mess under it. Heat pipes don't a cover a good portion of the GPU and are not in direct contact. It has a second plate of copper between the GPU and the heat pipes. Hottest running card I have ever had. I will not buy another AMD/Gigabyte product again if this is what they produce.
