If anyone would want this to mess around with then let me know and I'll send the modded BIOS. Remember, if you screw it up, not my fault and you can just flip the switch on the card to go to the other BIOS and be just fine.

As a Rev 2.0 owner screwed by Gigabyte this sounds really interesting. Are you sure that it provides 1.3V and not 1.256V with wrong reading? Another interesting thing is that the stock BIOS on my REV 2 was limited to 1.2V, how did you manage to get 1.256V on it?

P.S I read some pages before that you changed the thermal grease on your card. How bad is the stock one? Difference?

I have read threads that said 7970 gigabytes could not be unlocked by flashing a different bios.
Incidentally earlier in this thread a couple guys said I was delusional for wanting a 280x that ran in the 60s (temp) at gaming load.

Well the Vapor X stock peaks at 65c at 38% fan. Vrms peak at 75c/65c. Also Inaudible at this fan speed. I think other guys in this thread are getting even better temps. This Vapor X is an XTL btw.

This is a very nice card. My only gripe is the cheap plastic shroud and it's too thick for many itx cases. But I think I'm going to pass on the 290 and just pick up another one of these, 280x crossfire ought to be good for a while. Tho, it's disappointing how poorly Metro series runs on the 280x, dialed down to high with minimal AA Metro2033 only manages like 43 fps and dips to low 30s in intense scenes. Gorgeous game though, much more impressive visually than Crysis3 IMHO. Also an awesome game, just loving this. Hard though.

I can not be sure if it truly gets the 1.3v, I did not test that far on it. Just wanted to see what BIOS could be swapped. Maybe later today I'll flash it again and see if GPU-Z shows it working or not under load.
The stock BIOS was limited to 1.2v but they have an update on their site, the F12 BIOS, that brought it up to 1.256v.
The stock TIM was very thick, over applied and had scoring/burn like marks on it. I replaced it with some MX4. Go ahead and pull you cooler off and take a look. The design is total crap.
Something is seriously wrong with these Gigabyte cards on the hardware end. Everyone keeps having the heating issues and poor performance in benchmarks and mining bitcoins. I feel ripped off by it but know this is something Gigabyte will fix in time. I paid for an OC card and found I had to under clock it to make it perform.

My current settings:

Today I need to get a new gpu, pretty much decided getting Asus r9 280x.

Always had nvidia and I wanted to ask if the drivers are working properly with this card. Any other problems occured?

So I just send back my gigabyte 280x. It was a hard decision because it was so cheap, but yesterday I touched the backplate of the vrm cooler and it was soooo hot, I think the vrm cooling on this card is just insuffincient. Combined with non existent vrm temps monitoring, I was hesitating to use it with my reduced fanspeed any longer.
In my opinion, gigabyte HAS to run the stock fan speed so high because they know that the tiny heatsink, which is not connected to the main cooler at all, would not be sufficiently cooling the vrms.

I will try to get my hands on the asus card now. It will cost me like 50 € more, but I think it is the only worthy 280x when you want a silent card. Also it has no voltage lock and has vrm monitoring. Let's see when I can get my hands on that thing!

hi, I have a gigabyte rev 1 280x
I was trying diferent bios series to see if I can get a better oc.
my bios is a F31 which give me this score (1100/1500 @1,2v stocks settings):

it always run at full speed and gpu load was 100/97%.

here comes the best part. If I bench any other bios series, like f3, f12 or the modified f12 that JoeDirt makes me(ty mate), the bench run worse than my original bios.
the clocks ramp down to 1050/1500 for moments, the gpu load spikes down to 60% in some cases.

I thought it would be a good idea share this findings with u people.
