[Official] AMD R9 280X / 280 & 270X / 270 Owners Club - Page 39

I have an MSI R9 280X and have run into a problem. I play games both new and old, even some DX7 and DX8 games. This thing flies with the new stuff but has a problem with the DX8 game in that the core clocks drop to 300 to 500 and frame rates plummet.
Is there any way to keep the clocks up all the time?

i have the same card. I'm already assuming you have the proper drivers. I was having problems with my GPU being 100% utilized so i flashed a bios that MSI provided to Techpowerupforum, no problems now besides the beta drivers

Haha, getting there! I've just overclocked my cpu to 4.2 GHz, the graphics score is obviously similar, but the physics score is significantly higher (+ 1414), after I get my CPU to 4.5 GHz stable i'll try overclocking the matrix a tad more!

According to reviews the new Radeon cards don't overclock too well. You're really getting lucky I must say smile.gif. I'll be impressed if you reach 1300Mhz stable on the core smile.gif
Your Physics score is quite low. That's the score I get with my FX 6300 at 4.8Ghz smile.gif

That was at stock, at 4.2 GHz I got 8193, should be able to go up to 4.5 GHz though.

For a point of reference the top gold 7970s are into the 13.5K range with 13K+ gpu scores. I'm not sure if you are getting the benefit of the Ivy gpu score bias, but I'd assume you are with 3dmark11. It boosts Ivy gpu scores around 400pts, so you should have that bonus in effect.

What about with 3D Mark (Non 11)? I have both, and after I fix my screens issues, i'll run some more benchmarks.

The two fastest in the HoF FS are over 9700 with almost 11K gpu scores. That puts them around 2K pts under high clocked titans.
