Im on a bare minimum motherboard (M5A78-M LX Plus) and it can only handle an OC of 4.1 and I dont see much of a difference with that, if any at all. Would it be worth it to step up to a FX 6300 or should I wait to see if there is anything worthwhile in the Intel Summer Deal thats coming up? I dont wanna get too far off topic, just looking to get the most out of my 270x.
With that very old chipset on your current motherboard you would be best to get a new MoBo/CPU to enhance performance of your PC as a whole. The FX4130 is a fair chip, but even an i3 with hyperthreading shows its weaknesses in most scenarios. An entry level Z87/LGA1150 board with an i5 would be ideal for best price/performance ratio now and in the long run, so you don't have to worry about upgrading again too soon.
You could even pick up a used Z77/LGA1155 and an i5, or even i7, for a reasonable price.
I would also keep my eyes peeled in the marketplace here, on eBay, and CraigsList for when the Z97 and Devil's Canyon hit the streets as people will undoubtedly be upgrading to see what these new chips are all about.
