I can't even reach 7000 with voltage at 1.3. My highest was 1220 core clock and 6900 memory, with a small increase compared to the previous results that I've posted.

Maybe I can try increasing the memory clock and leaving a lower core clock, but I don't think this can bring extra performance.

My first post here, though I've been following you for quite a while.

So yesterday I finally got my Asus R280x DCUII and decided to see how it goes. So just basic OC, since I'm just a noob at this.

I don't think I can get the core any higher, I tried 1230, but there were some artifacts and I stopped the test. Any suggestions?

Hello, welcome to OCN! 1210 mhz core will give you amazing performance though if it is game stable. 1300mhz and up is only for the top 10 percentage of the GPU's. Could you measure power consumption while gaming with a kill a wat or something? Because I figure 1.3V is going to make it suck quite a bit of juice.

Can you tell me a little about your impressions of the card as I'm looking into buying an asus dc2 280x myself but the only thing stopping me is the apparently unreasonable high idle sound. Which is stupid because it is such a capable cooler and they could get away with letting it spin ultra slow on idle. Could you give me your impression of the idle noise in a silent room with your case fans and cpu cooler as low as possible? Thanks mate!

I'm going to have to do some more stability tests since I've only ran Firestrike.

I don't have the means to measure the power consumption unfortunately. However, I can tell you that my 500W PSU doesn't seem to be troubled, the CPU being OCed to 4.5 GHz as well.

About the noise, it seems pretty quiet to me, especially in full load. I just turned down all the other coolers in my case and the GPU fan is definitely audible, though not disturbing for me. When idle it is covered by the other fans. But I guess that this is rather subjective. My guess is that you won't hear it if you put it in a case designed for silence.

!

Where did you hear this? All the reviews say this is the quietest one there is.

Well I have an inaudible idle build so all I hear in idle is the GPU sound... Guess I'll have to look somewhere else.

From techpowerup and hardware.info

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/R9_280X_Direct_Cu_II_TOP/25.html

Under load it is fine and you can adjust the noise to your liking while trading some temperature for it but idle noise is lower limit and you cannot ge tower without modding bios.
31dbA idle is way too high, other cards idle around 24-25dbA so with a doubling of sound pressure every 3 dab, 31 dbA idle is stupid.

Just recieved my Asus DC2T R9 280X. How do I join ?

This card is incredible ! @idle its fans only spin @20% and can't be heard at all, idles at 33°C. Playing BF3 I removed my headset and could barely hear it and it only went up to 70°C. I'm just waiting on EK's waterblocks now smile.gif.

HWMonitor:

Here's a quick 3DMark 11: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7376300

EDIT: And a 3DMark (2013 ?): http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1484921

I'll start overclocking before tonight but the real fun will start whenever EK decide to finally release their blocks. I LOVE this GPU. My first proper GPU and I'm glad I chose this one. Used to have a weird 560Ti for over a year then sold it and had been running an OEM GTS 240 with a fan defect that made it make an unbearable noise even on idle. I can't believe I'm so close to completing my rig after all these years ^^.

EDIT: and a terrible photo of my rig as of a couple hours ago that I sent to a friend just to show him, I'll take better pics later.

Hmm or Asus shipped the card with an other bios than techpowerup reviewed it with or you have a high tolerance for noise. Could you see the rpm of the fans in idle in Afterburner or the like?

High tolerance for noise ? Well I didn't used to and that's one of the many reasons I went with watercooling but I guess that having the GTS 240 and its warn out fan bearing for so long could've made me more tolerant to noise. I highly doubt it though as most of the time I have my headset on anyway and I found my friend's 7870 TF2 made too much noise (way more than this Asus card I have now) before he put his whole rig under water a week ago.
Here's a bad picture of his rig around the same time I took my photo: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

AfterBurner does indeed display the fans actual speed and not only in %. Right now it's @37°C and the fan's spinning at 1011rpm (=20%).

EDIT: that link you posted says this card is louder than a 560 Ti. No way. The 560 Ti was quite noisy @load and could be heard on idle.

Hmm 1000rpm shouldn't sound too loud. Now if the fans spin at the same speed as they do on the 780 asus dc2(as it is the same cooler), I do not see why there is a discrepancy between the idle noise measurements of the two cards, as the 780 asus dc2 is regarded very quiet in idle around 25dbA instead of the 31dbA. Will ask a 780 owner what speed his fans spin at.

Would you perhaps have a good guide / tutorial to overclocking these cards ?

That would be great.

Maybe OP could add a datasheet with User Names, Card, Model, Clocks, Voltage, etc... ?
Oh and a signature for this club, lets not forgot about that smile.gif
