Thanks for the info. I do have 2- 16X PCIe 2.0. I've read somewhere that PCIe 2.0 doesn't have the bandwidth for non linked Crossfire. But then again my whole hobby consists of ignoring most of the "Information" that's out there. The VESA 103 issue seems to begin right where the linked Crossfire ends. It also seems to begin right where ITX cards begin to appear. So for now it looks like HD7970 for Crossfire, and Nvidia ITX cards for single GPU in the BTX mini towers.. This is my first Crossfire setup so I don't want to get into software SLI if I don't have to. R9-280X is still a question. If my R9-285s weren't ITX I could test it myself.

Depends on the cards, and even with something like a fury or 390x pcie 2 might only cut a couple fps at most and that's still a maybe and unlikely. The performance loss at 2.0x8 is at most 3%, or effectively nothing

I actually have 2 PCIe 2.0 16x slots, and an 8,4,1x. slot. I believe that only if I use the 8x slot will my second 16x drop down to 8x. The only issue I've heard of with PCIe 2.0 is putting Crossfire data on the bus in addition to the normal video data. 3.0 has the extra bandwidth. I could run a normal R9-285 2GB behind one of the ITX cards and see what happens. My maximum CPU is going to be about 4.2GHz QX9650. I wonder at what point it will bottleneck?

CPU is your slowest point there, the rest is all fine, don't worry pcie 2x16 is fine it's the same as 3@x8 so it won't be a bottleneck. You'll hit bottlenecks for pcie at x4 2.0 and pcie 1.1, your pcie bus is the least concern you have

I just remembered seeing PCIe 16x extension cables, and 90* adapters. I looked at some of them and I think I could Crossfire my ITX cards that way. This would also uncover my PCIe 8x slot so 16x,8x,8x might be possible. 3 way R9-285 2GB? The 90* adapters all turned the wrong way. I also saw some 16x spacers that would help with a few BTXs where large MB caps get in the way of 2 slot GPUs. There was a 8x to 16x cable listed. Maybe I'll run this by the guys at the Tonga forum.

Has anyone gotten any luck with their Asus 270X TOP? I think i may have a good 270X, as i can reach 1300MHZ Core.
Max i could do was 1205MHZ on core, as 1310MHZ would blue screen.
1205MHZ was the max i could do in Fire Strike, but i run 1255MHZ daily.

What's the ASIC?

My 270X can do 1300mhz as well but only in Valley, in most games it will freeze pretty quickly.

I can game on it at 1250mhz though.

70.7%, didn't expect it to OC that high though..
I can do 1300MHZ stable in games, but i just run 1255MHZ daily.

PCIex 3.0 vs 2.0 was 1% back when 7990 was the best GPU ... so i dont think u will notice any fps lost now ...
