Your main concern is core, with good vrm cooling you can do 1.3v on air daily just fine. First keep your memory at stock and start bumping core till you get artifacts then back off till you don't. I bump in 25mhz then back in 10mhz till stable. You might consider a better cooler even if you have an AIB cooler. Make sure to get the best heatsink you can on the vrms.

This would be pretty good but you will need to get extra sink for vrms and memory

http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16835186154

For the best fit make sure you have a dremel so you can trim the heatsinks that don't come with the kit. Get the biggest heatsink you can fit within reason on the vrms and don't be afraid to push 1.3v, avoided higher unless you do full block water

I've the Sapphire Dual-X version. My memory was at stock, and my voltages are set to 1.3 V, core clock set to 1125 MHz. I really can't get any more out of the core without artifacting. I've, however, OC the memory to 1700 MHz and it gave me about 2 extra avg FPS in SoM benchmark. Not much difference in other games.

Stupid holidays, everyone chillin' somewhere RMAs not getting processed. Card sent anyway for 2nd RMA, well RMA? they've sent me a DOA card from RMA so I don't know to call it really. Not gonna wait forever for them to sort crap out and maybe maybe let me know a month later.

Hello. I got a second 280x from Gigabyte, I have the issue with the top card running very toasty, I saw it top out at 88C. I've increased the fan speed in my curve but it seems to always wanna get that hot unless I go all out 747 and run it at 80+%.
The bottom card runs alot cooler, at max 74C.

Do you think swapping the cards would be good or will the bottom one run just as hot? The top one is not that dusty but it does have some burnt in at the top and some I couldn't get out with my compressor. The bottom one is very dust free.

Or can I ease the strain on the top one and put my 3 monitors on the bottom one maybe? The top card is kinda stuck between the bottom card and my D14 with fans running very slow. I'm not sure how I can optimize it to make sure it doesn't run that hot.

Suggestions?

Top will always run hot as it's getting heat from the bottom card. Aftermarket or water is the only way to improve it but it'll still run hotter

Tbh sounds like you're pretty much at your peak GPU wise, not much more to do

Yes of course I expected it to run hotter, but I didn't expect this much hotter. Much higher fan speed and higher temperature at the same time.

I don't want water in my rig again. I'm gonna see what I can do with the fans I have at the moment.

If your airflow to GPUs is bad what do you expect?
I guess we all have to switch gpus to latest gen sooner than later to actually enjoy dx12 games in the future. Warhammer ignores gcn1.0 and now RoTR's Async Compute patch too. I guess it's more work to optimize their code for the slowest GCN architecture 79xx - 280(x) (only 2 ACE meaning only 16 compute commands)
