EDIT: Checked the ASIC quality, GPU-Z says it is 68.5% on my card

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_7970_Toxic_6_GB/32.html

This card had 1.35v from the factory for its 1200mhz oc bios. I think it's fine if you can keep temps under control (under 75c).

ASUS service centers are absolute jokers, they've sent back to retailer the GPU but without box and all accessories because they've put it somewhere and couldn't find it.
Screw ASUS RMA, completely useless 3 year warranty.

Update:
From ASUS Taiwan (an ASUS rog forum admin that monitors the AMD GPU threads and 280x artifacts thread) and shop I've got to know that service center (SC) didn't inform retailer not to send the original packaging and as such SC disposed of it no matter how stupid that is. On top of that ASUS admitted that during their transport the card was damaged, hell no wonder when they don't even use the original packaging and instead send the cards packed in who knows what half across the globe. Not once did they offer an upgrade for free or with payment needed, nor money back, they seem to be hell bent on giving back refurbished 280xs no matter in what sorry state those cards are.
ASUS Taiwan has apologized and that's it.
Shop should receive the missing CF bridge from SC this week.

Maybe I will get some card back by end of the week, maybe.

In case it artifacts again, I'm not even sure I want do a 3rd RMA and their handling of RMAs is certainly deterring people from doing so.
Should have sold the original card and not RMA it... stupid ASUS RMA, what a joke.

And service center calls after ASUS Taiwan finally got to them. Pretty much repeating the previous, apologizing and saying that retailer RMAed with them instead of via a distributor like with first RMA so they weren't informed not to send the box, asked what accessories I need that were lost in the process. Personally I am not surprised that the retailer RMAed directly with service center since the first RMA via distributor took over a month and resulted in a refurbished yet damaged card, I bet they weren't happy about it either.

RMA in EU is such a PITA lengthy process especially when you don't have the document saying how much you paid the retailer for the product and only have a warranty document. One can't RMA with ASUS directly, as far as it seems neither should retailer and only distributor can, so the card has to be sent from customer to retailer to distributor to ASUS service center you can see how stupidly long that is and how much money is wasted on shipping the card around.

Card is enroute, finally. Having ASUS Taiwan talk to them does seem to work to speed things up a little and improve their service. All I can say is if someone has an issue with ASUS RMA, try ASUS forum, ROG forum, and get a hold of someone from ASUS there to help out, it still takes time though before they look at the RMA and give the service center a call. You kind of want to get above the service center in the "food chain".

Anyone knows if 280x with 16.7.3 driver has issues running MadVR or random lock ups in 3D when FRTC at 200fps is enabled?
I smell a 3rd RMA in a row frown.gif

---

14.12 - MadVR runs fine, it's the oldest driver I have, but I still saw that weird screen blink glitch kind of greenish
82-85C under 100% game load, 2400-2500rpm fan, insane heat coming out of the card. The cooling is maybe not mounted the best but I would rather say the chip consumes much much more power at ASIC 60% than it should, it's nuts.

On my original card I would have had 70-75C and 1500-1600rpm with less heat coming out of the card at 100% game load.

15.12 - same story as 14.12 driver...

Even newer 16.7.3 driver launched today this time without VHQL in it's name, same story as before, MadVR crashes, didn't try games and FRTC, as I was starting to test it I read the latest message from ASUS and they've decided to refund me, no idea how much, short time later, retailer calls with the same info and to send the card back to them, again no refund amount info. Card sent back. Will see.

The card was a mess, consumed insane amount of power which made it run +10C on both chip and VRMs than it should, fans spun like a jet liner. Newest drivers don't work well at all, which are the only ones that include Vulkan support. Card was also damaged again in transport between ASUS local service center and their Asian service center this time it was minor and not affecting installation but they definitely need to fix their internal shipping packaging and handling.

I will be purchasing Micro Center's 2yr replacement warranty for $30 so I can use the card as I intended with a waterblock.

Sad...no more Sapphire cards for me after this RX480 with that warranty policy in place.

if you live in USA they passed some law in the 70s that says you are freely able to take those stickers off and it will not void your warranty..

i got two xfx rx 480s and thats the first thing i did. one of them the paste wasnt even applied over the whole die.. it was off to the side..

here is what XFX told me.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting XFX Technical Support. If you have purchased the card in the North America, removing or damaging the "Warranty void if removed" stickers wont void your warranty as long as you don't incur any physical damage to the card and you keep your stock cooler on hand in case you need to send the item to us (you need to return it to its original form). It means that replacing the thermal paste of the GPU will not void your warranty. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.

Yours,

Krell

I know what XFX's policy is, but I contacted Sapphire support and they stated warranty would be void. Notice how XFX specifically said North America, because their warranty varies depending upon region.

Who? Sapphire?

They are always saying that any OC or any fiddling with the card from it's stock state will void warranty. Sure if you have a law that allows you to remove stickers then just hammer them with that when they complain about missing stickers on an RMAed card.

XFX honestly seems much better than Sapphire to me.

Could someone confirm if there are issues with the 16.7.3 driver on Tahiti.

I want to know if this driver fix dirt rally crashing on high/ultra settings but people have been reporting other issues so i'm holding off for now.

My understanding was that it only affected the RX 480 and only affected you if you were overclocking the VRAM.

Yup Sapphires warranty is about worthless anyway, they wouldn't honor mine because I bought it bnib on eBay.
