Rep+. That I did not know. So all I would need then is an amp if I already have a good sound card?

ESI Juli@ $159.00@Amazon

So Rakukojin, I'll be assuming that the Juli@ will offer the best sound, right?
Which have better drivers (would that affect quality of sound?) and performance by the dollar. (Shipping rates are KILLER).

Thanks.
Like soloz2 said and I mentioned in an earlier post, since you'll have a bit-perfect out they'll all sound exactly the same. It's just little things that don't directly affect the sound quality like jitter (a small disturbance in the signal) and driver support. Basically if you can output a bit-perfect signal, then it's the quality of your external DAC that will affect the sound quality. That's why I'm using a Chaintech AV-710 which costs less than $30. It has horrible drivers and was a big hassle to get bit-perfect out of while something like the ESI Juli@ would be better out of the box.

Make sure you're using a media player that can support ASIO or Kernel Streaming, such as foobar2000 or Winamp in order to bypass Window's KMixer.

Are you using headphones? If so which cans do you have? You may or may not need an amp if your sound card can already properly drive your headphones. Higher end headphones have higher impedance (and other things) that will require an amp to get volume at normal listening level, otherwise you'll barely hear anything. If you just want an amp to improve your sound, some headphones benefit more from amping than others.

So would the ATH-A700 benefit from amping compared to others?

Not so much, the ATH-A700 is very efficient so it can be driven fine without an amp. The Beyer DT770 will benefit a lot with an amp though. However, since you will be doing bit-perfect output through an external DAC, you need some form of volume control since you can't control it with Windows anymore. Also an amp will allow you to connect you headphones without use of a crappy adapter because the amp has a mini jack. You can't directly connect your headphones to your DAC because most don't have a headphone jack, only RCA.

The Behringer SRC2496 has a jack for headphones and volume control, which may be better suited for the ATH-A700 without the need for an amp.

Hmm.. This may sound like a silly question but, could I use the headphones to directly connect to the sound card? (In this case, the Audiophile 192/Juli@.. I just don't understand all these Audio inputs/outputs..)

you can use headphones directly out the back of your sound card, but you won't get as good SQ as you would with an external DAC and amp combo

Ah, I see.
That's all the questions I have, I just have to pick out the components now.
Thank you very much to you both, Rakukojin and soloz2.

I don't even see a headphone jack for my sound card. I don't see a mic one either. Instead I just use the front I/O panel.

BTW, if you plug your headphone into your speakers. Do you lose SQ?

well... there will be a headphone/speaker output on the back of your computer and there should be a mic in too. the headphone/speaker (really the front left/right) will be green and the mic will be pink)

by plugging your headphones into your speakers you will certainly not gain any SQ. people argue both ways about if you actually loose anything, but my opinion is that I have not seen too many computer speakers with high quality cables and audiophile grade pots (volume) so you'll be placing these things in-line with your headphones. Will you be able to hear a difference? It depends on you, your source audio, the speakers and your headphones.

Since I have the products in mind, I was shopping around for a cheaper DAC.
I have found this:

Is this any good?
