Hard Drive Structure is Corrupted and Unreadable Error

I tried asking this on the Microsoft Answers forum, but they were useless. Can anyone here tell me how to fix it? It has LOTS if important data on it, and I really don't want to lose it.

Picture of the error I got trying to access it

open an elevated command prompt and type:
Code:
chkdsk /f

and this one for good measure
Code:
sfc /scannow

alternatively you can right click on the HDD in explorer --->properties--->tools--->check drive for errors.

I actually had this issue last week. Look up a program called testdisk. Download it (its a linux freeware program) and run the "testdisk_win" program. Have it point to that drive and let it run. I recovered an external drive that way with a bunch of work info.

Here's the link: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download

Edit: As always, make sure you run a virus/malware scan just in case etc etc. You know the drill lol. thumb.gif

Thanks! This worked for my other drive, but not my one I had issues with. No biggie. Why? Because I cloned it onto my other one. tongue.gif Duh, I feel a little dumb right now.
