Wireless Card not found in Device Manager

Thread Starter
Today I bought a TP-Link 300mbps PCI-e network adapter (TL-WN881ND) so I could connect my desktop to the internet wirelessly. I thought this would be a simple task, but apparently not. When I first installed it and discovered that the provided setup cd was incompatible with windows 8, I thought driver updates would amend the issue. They didn't, and actually caused my LAN connection to fail. So, I uninstalled the wireless card and removed it from the PC to make sure that the ethernet connection was working again - which it was. Now I reinsert the card into the PC and boot it up and it is not recognised...by the installation disk software or by device manager. This is a bit worrying, so I move the card from a PCI-e 1x bus to a PCI-e 16x (I have a Gigabyte H87-HD3 motherboard), and still the thing isn't recognised. Moving it back onto the 1x slot doesn't change this. So now I am beginning to thing that the card has been damaged, but I cannot understand how... I have dealt with plenty of PC parts and never had a problem, always hold a pcb by the edges and stay earthed etc. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that. Seeing as how you've tried the card in two different PCIe slots and it still isn't recognized, you may have to RMA the card just to eliminate that as the cause.

Do you have another PC with an open PCIe slot that you can confirm?

I feel a bit silly now, but the problem is solved. It turns out that due to the way the motherboard is fitted into the case, when the card was aligned with the back plate it wasn't actually fully slotted into the pci bus. In other words - I hadn't plugged it in properly - rolleyes.gif . I remember having an issue installing the graphics card and it not aligning straight with the back of the case, so I should have remembered. Anyway, a quick *proper* install and the adapter is working as soon as I turn on the pc! Thanks for the help!
