My experience with XFX and my XFX 7870 Tahiti LE's.

After sticking with my GTX465’s for a few years I had decided it was time to upgrade my cards, so I saw this amazing deal on a retailers website, it looked far too good to be true, especially after looking at benchmarks, I figured that this was a really good move on a not so massive budget, so I took the plunge and bought the card.
I had my first AMD card (ATI) back then, and although it was good, it wasn’t great, it lasted a little over a year, and started artifacting, this put me on the back foot for a good 11 years, before I purchased the 7870, I picked XFX because in the past I have had a couple of motherboards that were XFX, and they are still going strong, my brother has one and my dad has the other, so I felt that this would be a reliable company to buy the parts from, I was wrong!

I received my card within a couple of days from the supplier, and removed my two GTX465’s and plugged this card in, and all was going well for about a week or so, then I decided to get another, this one I bought on eBay, this arrived in good time, and I plugged this into my machine without hesitation, then the problems started, I was getting black screens, blue screens, striped screens, the works, I tried reformatting, drivers left right and centre, and even went so far as to check for enough thermal compound on the cards, which there was plenty( swimming in it actually), upon removing the fans and heat sinks, I noticed that on both cards in exactly the same place both cards had a small bunch of capacitors that were melted! Both were still under warranty so I decided to send them back to XFX directly. (Big Mistake)

I logged onto their website, and created an RMA support ticket for each card, this was the correct process, I waited four days for a response, which I never received, and had to raise another ticket to draw their attention to the original two, this should have sent the alarm bells ringing, but I was just happy that I received a response, I immediately got my RMA number and was told to post the items to the Netherlands, I did this within a couple of days, and the items were received on the Thursday of the following week, I had no ticket update from XFX, so I prompted them to respond by confirming they had received the cards, to which they did, I then asked them how long I should expect for my cards to be tested and returned, the XFX support team then advised that the cards would be initially tested in the Netherlands and then sent to China! Which could take about two weeks, I obviously had to accept this as by the time they had responded they were well on their way. So I waited, and I asked again, to which I received my tracking number and was told that the items were being shipped by UPS, I tracked the items and they arrived back in the UK a day after I was given the tracking number, odd! Then UPS called me to say I had to pay customs charges on the cards, this was £81.17 to be exact, I emailed XFX immediately asking if they would pay as it was their product that was faulty in the first place and I never chose for them to be sent to Hong Kong, and their response was they were not liable for any customs charges. I paid the charges in the hope I would be able to get the charged appealed (Which is in the process as we speak).

So UPS delivered my cards the next day after paying the customs fee, I took the cards home and plugged them in once again, and just wow! Even though I sent out two of the same cards I received two different ones back, well as far as the GPUS on the cards, I sent two Tahiti LE chips out and received 1 Tahiti LE and 1 Pitcairn, this completely defeated the object of buying two of the same cards as they could be crossfired but these two new ones couldn’t, so I emailed XFX again and said they had sent me the wrong card back, the response was

Dear sir

Please notice that you don't have requested that both replacement must be same version.
We don't promise that we must replace the one which is exactly the same.
We have not promised to pay the customs or taxes for you if there is any.
In conclusion, we have not made any mistakes and all our procedures have been done correctly.
We are sorry that we can't satisfy your requests.
Best regards

Wade”

So I now have two cards one of which has again gone faulty, and the other is not the same as the faulty one, so now even if I get the faulty one replaced again it will cost me an arm and a leg to get replaced anyway, and then I would still have two un equal cards so I can only use one at a time anyway.

Exact replacements are fair enough when it's one card, but two coming in matching should be returned as a matching pair. Even standard 7870 or even 7850s would be better than a 7870 and a 7870 LE. Does the returns dept.at XFX not know about multi-GPU technology?

So from my personal experience, my advice is avoid XFX products because so far I have had nothing but a really bad experience with their support team, their products are sub-standard and feel unfit for purpose, and it feels like as soon as they had my money, they didn’t care, £420 out of pocket, the most expensive paperweights I ever bought.
As far as I am concerned I will never purchase an XFX product again.

Anyone else had an experience like this, I am sure we would all like to hear about it.

Regards

Well i've never bought from XFX and probably never will now thumb.gif
Kind of like my motherboard i blew up my first Asrock Z77 OC Formula, they said fill this form out.
Haven't heard back from them in 8 months.
I tried RMA after i bought the 2nd one.

The computing industry is becoming dangerously lazy as of late, getting sick and tired of seeing threads like these.

EDIT: Just a little add here, i TOLD THEM I WOULD PAY FOR THE DAMAGES TO BE FIXED AND STILL NO REPLY. The Worldwide email is disgusting they type broken english.
