~$800 build conundrum...

Thread Starter
So my trusty sig system has finally died after roughly 5 years. Wont even power on, but my motherboard's power LED does come in.
Rather than try and troubleshoot what could be the issue, I figured maybe this a sign to finally upgrade.

Since I'm getting married in just under a year, I cant afford to go all out on a new build. I've got around 800 max to spend.
From my current rig, I'll be reusing my PSU and video card (provided they aren't the cause of my mysterious problem).

Reusing:
Sapphire Radeon HD6950 2GB
Antec TruePower Quattro 850W
hard drives, DVD drive, etc.

If I go AMD, I'm looking at the following:

Asus Crosshair V Formula Z
FX-8350
8GB Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1600Mhz
Samsung EVO 120GB SSD
Windows 8 64-bit

Total cost before taxes:
$750

If I go Intel:

MSI Z87-G45
4670K
8GB Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1600Mhz
Mushkin Atlas Deluxe 120GB mSATA 6Gb/s SSD
Windows 8 64-bit

Total cost before taxes:
$723

Ideally, I'd like this system to last at least 4-5 years like my last one...save for GPU upgrades as needed.

As more games are developed with multi-threading in mind, it "should" make more sense to go FX, would it not?

I say go for the AMD system I never usually say this but it seems new games like bf4 benefit from 8 cores/6 cores. Meaning games now start using more than 4 cores.

Definitely agree with this guy, I love intel, but newer games are using more cores. Personally I wouldn't even get windows 8 if you don't have to ( it'll save you some extra bucks wink.gif.

Thanks, I actually went with the 4670K though. The MSI board I wanted was on sale for $140, and the 4670K @ $250.
It was 40 bucks cheaper than what AMD would have cost me.
