XSPC Photon Glass Reservoir / D5 Pump Combo - Page 4

Greetings all... looking at the 270 res/pump combo as I want to get rid of my existing bay reservoir to gain space for a light controller in my present setup.

I have the Corsair 800D tower, and I would like to put the 270 in the bottom section of the case which would mean it would be laying horizontal. I'd leave enough slack in the tubing to be able to rotate vertically on the initial fill and bleeding, but does anyone know if there would be an issue with this combo laying on its side during normal operation.

My thoughts are it would be ok since as long as there is water in the tube the pump would never run dry. And with this being the lowest placed device in my loop, can't see that ever being an issue.

I presently have the Swiftech MCP655 pump in my loop... this XSPC pump seems to be comparable in terms of flow rate, and just slightly under in head pressure. I don't have enough room to put the 270 reservoir only device with the Swiftech pump in line in the bottom of my case. At least without modifying the hard drive cages which I do not want to do at this time....

Hey guys, first time poster.

Have a question on this kit. Can the tube be mounted Vertically? I'm also assuming the pump has to be on the bottom? Assuming I can install this Vertically I'd like to install a T at the top of the Loop for a fill port then figure out where I can put a drain.

My current setup although my first dive into water cooling leaves little to be desired. biggrin.gif It does the job but I don't overclock.

Anyone know if there's a PDF for the manual of this kit somewhere on the net? The kit I'm looking at is below:

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21641/ex-wat-275/XSPC_Raystorm_AX240_Universal_CPU_Water_Cooling_Kit_w_D5_Photon_and_Free_Dead-Water.html?tl=g59c683#blank

Thanks

The tube can definitely be mounted vertically as I've seen many pictures of it installed like that. ( with pump on bottom ) As far as a drain, just add some kind of shut-off valve or quick disconnect to the bottom portion of your loop. Just search for either one of those terms on frozen cpu and you'll see some options.

You're probably not going to find a manual for your kit you wanna buy, as it's simply a couple of individual components just packaged together. What kind of information are you looking for specifically? How to bleed the system? Cleaning? ???

I've ordered the pump/reservoir combo so I'll update ya once it arrives and I begin to install it. I will be trying it out horizontally though which is a question I inquired about in my earlier post as all the install pics I've seen have it mounted vertically.

i really like that pump res combo wish i would of know xspc made that screw ring i would of got that not the bitpower pump mod. does the xspc come with a pump cover too. if it does not then i would stick with the bitpower pump mod

here is my build

Has anybody run their coolant over 50C and seen negative results?

I've never seen coolant ever hit anywhere near that high. To do that you'd have to have really high CPU &/or GPU temps - like 90C or more - and a terribly underperforming loop. Heck, I've seen people like Wisk with an OC'd CPU & GPU on a single 120 rad loop who never even approached anywhere near those kind of temps.

I've got the pump/reservoir combo (270). Keep in mind it's quite big and heavy especially in my case (750d). I thinking about getting rid of it. It's a pain to fill and to bleed. Overall quality of the reservoir is outstanding though, although I wish there was another led slot at the top of the frosted tube, so the entire thing can be lit up.

The 270 D5 combo is 13.75" (350mm) tall, and you will need a bit of extra room above and below to get to the fill port on the top and for the wires that come out of the bottom of the pump.

edit: doh.gif I probably should have made clear that was for the Photon 270 D5 combo. I juat assumed since it's the subject of this thread, but on re-reading your post I'm not sure that's what you meant.

If you're just talking about the 270 reservoir it's 10.63" (270mm) tall.

Either way I think it could fit in your 540, depending on what all else you have installed and where you want to mount it.

I just measured and if I move the rear 140mm exhaust to the exterior of the case it should* work. Dont think I have enought width between side window and GTX TItan.... I may be screwed...mad.gif
