Hey there..question about the ram i just bought

hi..saying hello cuz i'm a newcomer and new to OC especially ram wise...

i have an fx8350 OC at 4.5 ghz on an asrock 990fx extreme 4 mobo...everything is stable...just built my pc a month ago

now..i was using my old ram and everythin was fine...

but now i''ve just ordered this ram

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226425

its 2x8gb sticks of at 2400mhz...

now i know i cant get to 2400 with an fx 8350..well i think
i've heard that on 2 stick i can get to 2100 and that on 4 sticks(if i buy more ram) i will run between 1600 and 1866 i think

thing is the timing is not that good on this ram and was wondering what kinds of timings and clock i can get..out of two and four sticks

where would be a good starting point in the settings, how do i downclock the ram and shorten timings while staying stable and do i use prime 95 to test the ram like i did for my cpu because there is a setting in prime that says it tests the ram and another that test both cpu and ram...

i'll recieive my ram wednesday and wanted to seek help. because i know squat about OC..

thank you for reading and hope some can give me an idea

edit..forgot to add i'm using windows 8 pro 64bit as i read in another thread that windows 7 home premium 64bit had a limit of 16gb..so if i want 32gb will i be ok?

Down clocking and tightening timings won't lead to higher performance.

Win7 x64 memory.

well.. the ram doesnt have good timing to start with...and i cant run on the max frequency either...would you suggest i just try to get clocks has close to 2100 and not touch timings?

I would stick with 1866-2133 and see what you can get the timings down to. Adjust the timings one at a time and test with prime for about 10 min before you try another setting.

ASRock boards are picky with memory I had some 2400 stuff on a Extreme 9 990fx and ended up running them at 1600 cl7 for every step down you take if you follow by lowering the timings youll have roughly the same performance. Now you may not always get this you will just have to play around and see what your ram likes

On your board there will be a multiplier seperate from the CPU clock that will allow you to adjust the ram frequency.

ok..i've recived it today but seems like i cant get it to work through prime at all

i tried all stock settings except for the frequency..which i lowered to 2133...

but the test fails...

the voltage is at 1.65

i know i should probably be lowering voltage but i'm not sure...

please someone help me a bit

edit.

i also tried setting everything to auto about the ram
and set the xmp profile but still in prime it doesnt work

ok

well i tried uping the core voltage of my cpu and seems like it became more staple...just have to tweak more
post #9 of 9
You know, the more I read about RAM and timings, the more confused I get about my own. Since Im new to tweaking and jsut built a rig, I probably have the wrong RAM. I guess my only question would be, what is a good timing configuration and good mhz to start with when using the FX 8350?
