Need help with Active/Passive adapters for eyefinity

Hi all,

I have just built my first eyefinity setup with 3 HDMI monitors.

Unfortunately after setting it up I realised that I could only use two monitors at once otherwise it'll give me an error when trying to enable the third display. "Unable to save settings"

I read up a little online and many places said that I would need an active adapter from my graphics card. At the moment I'm setup like:

HDMI --> HDMI
MiniDisplay port --> HDMI
MiniDisplay port --> HDMI

(all cables, no adaptors)

What adaptor would I need to run three screens successfully?

Would one of these be enough? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009YCE11E/ to plug into one of the MiniDisplayPorts? or would I need two, one for each?

Thanks very much, any help would be appreciated.. I'm pretty confused!

I was in the same situation and literally got so confused with regards to which adapters works and which doesn't. There is a list of eyefinity certified adapters available on AMD's website, but actually finding them is a different case all together.

Initially I bought 2 Mini DisplayPort to hdmi adapters from amazon, think they were branded King Mason, and they worked fine with regards to being able to run 3 screens with eyefinity with a single monitor running hdmi-hdmi and two running mini dp to hdmi. But unless you are extremely lucky, you will most likely run into screen tearing due to hdmi and dp having different screen refresh timers or at least something in that respect.

I ended up buying 3 identical "apple" adapters from a company called Sandberg, mini dp to hdmi and they work fine with no screen tearing.

I simply can't say if those Startech will work, but I saw them mentioned in other discussions about this, but I can't remember if they were positive, sorry :/

Thanks very much for your help Petersson smile.gif

I managed to get my setup working with one active adapter in one of the minidisplay port slots.

The Startech adapter seems to be decent so far. I haven't had a chance to try any games yet, but if I do get any screen tearing then I'll make sure I update this post.

Otherwise yeah, seems successful so far!

Thanks again,
Fysh
