anyone have opinions on this? i would be getting the surface rt, i do get a student discount on the sony, not sure about the microsoft. i will be carrying this around with me to use for my txt books for the next semest and on in school, i have office 2010 on my laptop which i will also still carry for essays and actualy word processing assignments. the tablet will recieve most of its use via videos and music between classes and ofcourse be used as an ereader. thanks for any advice and suggestions.

V

ps: the price difference isnt something that actually bothers me as the sony is just 100 more then the rt for me

Can you please supply the price of both the Xperia Z and Surface RT you are looking at? Also, have you considered the new, much more powerful Surface 2? Lastly, you can get a 10% discount from Microsoft on all purchases if you have a .edu address: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbpage.2013-edu-promo&test=nct?Icid=Homepage_WhatsNew_5_Student_discount_100713

I think both would suffice for your use cases, however, with the Surface, you can do some of your assignments on it since it does include a full version of office.

Let me know!

EDIT: I also wanted to add, you also need to take into account that the Xperia Z is a 5" screen w/ 1080p resolution, whereas the original Surface is a 10.6" screen w/ 768p resolution, and the Surface 2 is a 10.6" screen w/ 1080p resolution.

I believe he is referring to the Sony Experia Z tablet which is a 10" screen, not the phone version.

My apologies, that makes more sense. Woudn't of expected Sony to have an Xperia Z phone and tablet (with the same name).

Then it really boils down to whether you'd like a Windows-based tablet or Android. If you're heavily invested in Google's ecosystem, then it makes way more sense to get the Xperia.

I would get the Xperia Z as it has much much more apps than a Surface RT
