The fan of my zalman 9500 has come off, and i was wondering if it can be put back by undoing screws or something (i have tried pushing it back in directly but it dosent like it ??? to the best of my knowledge the fan cant be replaced . still the temps @ full load are 67C which are just about bearable i guess..

How did it fell off?

Also, full load temps of 67c won't be consistent, unless; the thermal management kicks in at about 65c on those CPU's, so that's why it won't go over.

I wouldn't run your system with out the fan. Also, be careful about re-attaching it. You wouldn't want that sucker flying off and playing pachinko inside your case.

Got any pics?

The entire fan assembly can be removed from the HS. I would recommend removing the entire HSF for that operation. Take a look at the face of the fan, some use a "c" clip on a stud to retain the fan (sometimes under a sticker). did that fall off?

Take care when replacing fans, the parts are lubricated. If you replace the fan and remove all the lubrication the fan may bind in the future.

Maybe contact Zalman, or the retailer for RMA replacement.

right , sorry, i dint explain fully , it did not fall off , i hadnt really checked temps at all for a good couple of days, and today, i just randomly checked it to see how it was, and i saw that the proc. fan is 0 , so i thought maybe it disconnected or something, then when i opened the case i noticed the fan was not rotating even though it was connected, so i thought of giving it a push to get it going, the moment i did that about 2-3 times very gently, the fan came off in my hand.

Hi again,

Pics of the mounting surfaces, or the area(s) where the components couple.

It just seems really odd that the fan would simply fall off (I am not implying anything other than my own confusion)

The spindle of the motor on the fan end ought to have a groove in it where a small "c" clip sits in order to retain the fan.

Sounds like a warranty issue that Zalman or the retailer should address. Fans that spin at 2000+ rpm are not something to jury-rig.

Good luck!
