i5 4670k vs AMD 8350

Thread Starter
i know you guys already got this question a TON of times but i am about to order one of these but i dont know which one to get frown.gif so what is your opinion (both are in the budget) i am leaning more towards the amd because watch dogs recommended a 8 core cpu :0,and is battlefield 4 running better on amd ATM? which is better overall? i know intel is alot faster on single threaded apps can you name some? thanks

Either one, i love the FX series procs and so far liking my haswell xeon. The AMD will give you better multi-thread performance, but youll need to overclock to get the single core performance closer to the i5. Either way youll have a system thatll serve you well c: id also pick the cheaper one and put more into your GPU purchase.

Ps do you plan on OCing? If not get a xeon 1240v3 for 275$ instead of the i5, or the 8350 to save more and put it toward a better GPU like i said before :]

I just went from a six-core 1090t to a 4670k. With the same video card and memory, the performance difference between the two was substantial in the BF4 Beta, despite BF4 being coded to support more than four CPU cores. The AMD processors have a very low IPC compared to Sandy/Ivy/Haswell (FX 8350 IPC is about the same as the 1090t I upgraded from; the 4670k is 67% faster in single-threaded applications).

In my case at least, the higher IPC of the 4670k yielded superior results in simulation type games (DCS A-10, MS Flight Simulator, ArmA 3) and a noticeable performance boost in Battlefield 3, BF4 Beta and Metro 2033 Last Light.

So my advice would be to get an i5 or an i7 if your budget will permit it. If you plan to keep your CPU for more than 2 years and are only playing mainstream games that are mainly dependent on the GPU, then it probably wont make a difference which processor you get.

I have the 1055T at 3.8ghz with a 7950 and i want to upgrade my cpu aswell. The 4670K seems to be a rather nice boost and it is in my budget range but i have been worried if 4 core will be enough for upcoming games. I know the 8350 have x8 and going for the 4770K feels a bit to expensive and i really want to try intel again so 4670K seems like a really good choice. I think BF4 will be alot better when its optimized even for quads and games like watch dogs will probably be fine aswell when intel have stronger cores generally.

The 4670k still performs better in the Battlefield 4 beta compared to the FX8350. My suggestion would be to get the 4670k, or if you can wait, see what AMD Steamroller brings to the table in ~4-5 months. If AMD can improve the IPC of their next-generation chips while offering 6-8 cores for the same price as an Intel Quad, they will have a very strong contender for Haswell.

I don't think going forward as games better support multiple threads.. you won't notice a lot of difference in performance.

I like to tinker with my 8320 and it plays all my games just fine. For my 4670k.. mostly its the motherboard I like because it has a lot of features my AMD board doesn't.

Just comes down to your budget and what you want (my opinion).
