Touch Typing? - Page 2

I completely agree with you. I just bought them because of the noise. The added benefit of only going to 2mm is negligible to me.

the idea of not bottoming out is to help avoid tendon strain and carpal tunnel, a common industrial injury for programmers. ideally you want a keyboard that actuates early in the press, but has a lot of throw past that point so that the hands can move in a comfortable way. These days you avoid carpal tunnel by changing keyboard styles and typing positions every so often. It makes the fingers move differently enoguh that yo don't get the repetitive stress injury cycle going.

Back in the day touchtyping was literally a style of typing, like the palmer method was a style of writing cursive. It's all about which fingers you are supposed to use to hit which keys. They had booklets and mimeographed worksheets and everything.

(yes I am aware I am ridiculously old)
