Should I get either the 3TB Seagate 7200.14 or the WD Green 3TB for extra strorage ?

Thread Starter
This HDD will not be used for raid or the OS, it's just for extra storage of files not used often, and I will be putting the 3TB HDD in my tower along with my 2TB OS HDD. The Seagate I can get for around 145$ and the Green for arounf 115$. So it's 30$ diff. Which one should get and why ? I know the new seagte 7200.14 is very fast but it's important to me that the drive is reliable. thanks

I would say neither of those, but this:
  • Get an SSD and install your os on it, use the 2TB you already own for extra storage.
or, if you really want another HDD
  • Get the WD, avoid Seagate if you can, they have the worst support I've ever seen in storage enterprise.

You can get 7200RPM 3TB HDDs for $100-110.... Toshiba and the 7200.14 go on sale often.

If you happen to want external, there two are $100 now... otherwise wait for a sale.

You should be able to find 7200.14 much cheaper then that. I have 2 of the 3TB 7200.14 and they are amazing drives. Very fast and quite. No problem so far ~ 1 year. Speed is actually nice to have since the drive is so big. ~ 160MB/s
