GTX 780 vs 280X? Can't make up my mind

So, I’ve been eyeing the Asus GTX 780 DCU II for what seems like an eternity (ain’t nobody gonna call me a stalker) but with the release of the Asus R9 280X DCU II I’m doubting my initial decision. Not only is the AMD card cheaper but it should overclock like a beast according to a review on HardOCP (you can supposedly go up to 1.4v) given you have a good sample. I’ll definitely loose a few frames per second and quite possibly get some frame time lag but I doubt I’ll notice it. I’ve never been one to notice the little things anyway. Heck, I barely notice input lag or screen tearing! Oh and I’d like to be able to play games at a mixture of high/ultra with the occasional 2x MSAA or more, depending on how hard the game is to run.

So do you guys reckon the 280X might be more suited for my needs?

P.S: I’ll be using a 2560x1440 monitor.

Edit: Or would it be wiser to wait for the R9 290/290X? Does anyone know if there will be 3rd-party coolers available?

780 is better, but wait for R9 290 and see how it performs.. Should be good value

280X is a little dated for 1440p gaming unless you plan to go CF

With 1440P you really want the 780. If it was 1080 60hz then the "7970 refresh" would probably be fine.

280X = 770 competitor. For the GTX780 competitors: X9 290 and X9 290X, you need to wait a couple of days to see the pricetags
