Thinking about upgrading. Need some advice.

So I'm currently debating upgrade option in the wake of the BF4 release. I play at 1080p and truely feel my current setup can handle it pretty well but have some options I weighing. Should I go for another 670 FTW which atm cost around $380-$410 (which i feel is too high) or ditch the 670 and go with 2 7950's or 7970's when they price drop? This is just for future proofing and possible 5760x1080p gaming.

You really couldn't go wrong with either but since you already have the 670, you can just get a regular 670 (non FTW Edition) and overclock it to match your current card to sli them. Will be cheaper.

As for the higher resolution gaming either will work but you may see a performance boost with the ATI cards since they are soon releasing Mantle.

Might want to look into that!

As your current rig stands i'd probably just opt for another 670! But if you wait and can nab a good deal on those ATI's... may be worth it. I'd wait to see the performance of their new API first though to make sure there are no serious bugs. If it wasn't for the mantle id just stick with the 670's and just overclock them for sure.

You have a good card smile.gif

Yeah buy my current 670 doesn't want to OC much at all even with a modded bios for more voltage. Really sucks. With the stock bios I can only hit 1201MHz core and 3557MHz mem (maybe more on mem). I guess its not too bad but no where near a golden card. Think I only hit like 1225 or 1241 MHz with the volt mod. Sadly it only hits 38-40C on full load too. All that thermal headroom and I can't get more out of it. Only reason I was looking at another FTW is for WC purposes. Since I have a full cover 680 WB on the one I have now. I think I'm going to wait and see what happens when the 290X launches next week.

Ahh yeah a decent clock. Never had an ATI card before but they're starting to do some interesting things. Yeah if i were you i'd wait. Your 670 should be able to hold you up meanwhile.
Might be able to sell it and get something like the 290x for the price you were originally gonna pay for a 670 sli'd rig.

the R9 290 is looking to be that sweet spot high end GPU .high end performance at USD 450 - 500. might end up close to GTX 780 with lots of OC headroom. thumb.gif
