Looking to upgrade

Thread Starter
Stuck in Afghanistan for a another 90 days. Looking to upgrade my GPU maybe another component. I have about 1.5k to spend.

Thoughts are to just upgrade to a GTX 780 and call it a day.

Any comments?

Thanks!

If you're not in any hurry, the new AMD GPUs are going to be available this month.
And if you're a die-hard Nvidia fan or the new GPus just don't catch your eye, you could at least wait until after the release and see what sort of price drops occur.

Could always grab two Gtx 760/770 for Sli, a single Gtx 780 or a Titan and spend the rest on a custom loop?

Or, assuming your sig rig is up to date, you could look in to upgrading to a multi-monitor setup or even a a higher resolution, single monitor setup.

Maybe you'd like to upgrade your motherboard/processor to the current generation Intel platform?

Really, we could go on and on. tongue.gif

I am probably going to stay with Asus/NVIDIA (call me crazy with the motherboard/GPU match). I am going to wait to purchase until January-ish.

**UPDATE** My G/f told me that my SSD took a complete dump and is going to have to be replaced. I heard the Samsung 840 series is quite the upgrade. I will probably grab one of those, too.

I am pretty satisfied with my current mobo/cpu..plus swapping them would be a minor upgrade overall. I regret buying the mobo I have now due to all the bloatware..I totally got in over my head. I am also satisfied with the air cooling setup I have with the Silverstone. It is a cooling beast.

I say grab a Samsung 840 Evo and a 780. If you have your 2700k to at least 4.5GHz you are pretty covered CPU power wise for a couple of years.

Well if you wont upgrade until jan, then you have time to consider....The new titan ultra or even a gtx 790 might be out by then if rumors of these upcoming comings cards are true,if not you can always grab a gtx 780 and you can also have a look at the newer samsung evo SSD's....

You really cant go wrong with the Samsung 840 Pro or Evo series solid state drives.
They are great drives in terms of performance and reliability. And the customer support has always proved to be knowledgable and very helpful. Not to mention, on the few circumstances that Ive had to file an RMA, I was very pleased with their process and turn around time.
Just going by my experiences.
Ive owned a few OCZ, Corsair, and Crucial drives as well, but I really love my Samsung drives.
Im hoping to get a 1Tb Evo soon.

Like the user above stated, you could pickup even a 1Tb Evo and Gtx 780.

1TB SSD seems a bit extreme, even for my tastes. with the 2TB of F3 backup/media, I could probably get away with a 256GB for my games/windows. The 780 seems like the solid upgrade choice. I will wait until after Christmas and watch for deals/savings.

Thanks.
