Word 2010 - page formatting

Thread Starter
Problem. I am used to Word, and type many documents in it. I sometimes find a heavy black line running across the page at the foot, which doesn't respond to 'delete', and stays where it is as my text carries on to the next page.
I work in a normal format, and have tried 'remove footer' - no result. How can I stop this happening?

You could try this,

In word 2010 go to:
Page Layout tab > click on Page Borders in the Page Background section > Remove the border from the bottom of the page

On this page http://www.justanswer.com/computer/46u18-word-document-always-black-bar-bottom.html is also a potential fix
