<$100, Best Nvidia or ATI Card

Thread Starter
Building a rig for my buddy and the gfx card budget needs to be under $100, no exceptions. I was looking at a Leadtek 7600GS only cuz the core was clocked at 490MHz instead of 400MHz. What's the equivalent ATI card and/or what's better (Nvidia or ATI) for the price?

edit: PCIe of course.

How about a $99 6800XT?

If you count MIRs, this 7300GT is one of the ones that could often get a 500mhz core overclock.

Those two have 8 pipes and the 7600 has 12, and these have lower clocks. What about ATI?

thats my card w/o the big fancy cooler. and i have the vga + DVI instead of 2 DVI's.

only bad thing about my card is its inability to overclock. other than that its a rock stable card plus it has 16 pipelines yay

The 6800 can usually unlock to to 12, sometimes 16 pipelines, but it's not guaranteed. The 7300 is mostly a project overclocker, but for well-over 100% bragging rights.

The only "real" ATI cards I see in that price range are the X1600 Pro and the 9800 Pro, of which the X1600 is a much better card. I do not know how they compare to the Nvidia offerings, though.

the 7300 sucks and cannot play modern games at any res and the radeon 1600 gets beat in every test by the 7600gs although id try to get the gt version as its faster and almost as cheap. the x800xl is good but cannot do pixel shader 3.0 the 7600 gt and gs are by far the best cards on the market right now for the price and beatsthe x800xl even with 4 less pipes due to it way higher clock speeds check out these links
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1983
http://www.vr-zone.com/print.php?i=3338

aqs u can see the 7600gt beats every other card exept the $200 plus cards in bench marks and modern games like fear which it beats anything upto and including the 1800xl and the 7800gt this is the card you should get defo get the 7600gt or gs which is only a little slower but is a good clocker

Get that 7600GT, no offense the x800xl and/or 7600gs would be a waste of money for the price.

I have an ATi X800XL equipped with an Arctic Cooling ATi Silencer 5 Revision 2 and I love it. I run it at stock however got it up to 400 Core / 500 Memory steady. I would buy that HIS Hightech X800XL - however, I'd get a none open box verison. Actually, since it's OEM it doesn't matter than it's Open Box, since only the GPU comes packaged when you purchase it.
Sentry21: How? The X800XL has more pipelines and it has a much better, quieter and cooler, GPU cooler. You can overclock that X800XL a little more, maybe to 440MHz Core and keep it at 1000MHz Memory and you'll beat any 7600.
