Build new or Upgrade?!?

Thread Starter
So, here's my dilema:

I want to be able to play BF4 @ 1080p, Ultra Settings and never drop below 60 FPS. My sig rig handled BF3 flawlessly, but unfortunately, I barely get 50 FPS on high in BF4.

So here are the options endlessly running through my mind right now:

Keep my current rig and just upgrade:

- additonal 8gb of RAM (12gb Total)
- Buy a 7990 or wait for R9 and buy a single R9-290 (not R9-290X)

or

Build new:

CPU: i7-4770k
RAM: 16gb G Skill RAM
COOLER: EK H30 240 HFX Water Cooler
Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker Case
PSU: Corsair HX1000 PSU
OS Drive: Samsung 840 250gb SSD
GPU: Possible 7990 or single R9-290.

Where I am stuck is, if I upgrade to a new GPU alone, will the current CPU be able to push a 7990 or R9-290 without bottlenecking? Do I need to build new? What GPU should I go with?

What do you guys think would be my best route and why?

I appreciate your help in advance!

I would just upgrade the GPU, because the difference between an i7-4770 and an i5-2500 is going to be pretty small in game.

A 2500k in my experience wouldn't push a 7990 very well in BF4, when I had my two 7970s with my 2500k, there was a certainly a difference in BF3 after I switched. I think your best bet would be another stick of ram for 8 total GB and a R9-290. After mantle comes out I'd be surprised if you had difficulty running BF4 with a 280x. I expect the R9 290 to run around the same performance as a 780, I never drop below 60fps on ultra. You also have to take into account that performance will more than likely be better on release too.

TLDR: If you have the cash to drop on a new rig, do it, hyper-threading makes a significant difference in BF4 and more than likely a lot of subsequent new titles. If not, another stick of RAM or an R9/GTX 780/Titan would suit your purposes fine.

If you can afford the new build I would simply buy it, specially because the new BF4 uses all cores instead of only 2

Thanks to everyone for their responses. It seems to me like my last piece of the puzzle will be to either buy a 7990 or R9-290, but that will totally depend on the benchmarks that are released here shortly.

My next question, if I choose to sell my PC, where would be the best place for me to sell it? Also, what would be a good asking price for my current sig rig?
